    Fishing Report Clubs

    By Rick

Fishing Minnesota has added a new menu item (see above) called Fishing Report Clubs. It's a way to keep the really good fishing reports coming and being shared only with those who are also providing fishing reports. We will only approve new members who request to join if they have already posted a recent fishing report in the area forum, associated with the Fishing Report Club area you want to join. We are going to limit the number of regular memberships, in the Fishing Report Clubs, t

comfortable game

For a truly gambling experience and a comfortable game, Casino Jax is a great choice. Here you will be offered not only exciting games, but also a user-friendly interface, allowing you to focus on the excitement, not on the complexities of use. I found my corner of pleasure here, and I'm sure you will appreciate it too!

Shimano BFS reels review

It has been a while but as a follow up review to the Shimano Curado BFS reel after a season or two of use.  To now also include it's predecessor the Shimano Scorpion BFS reel as in comparison.   First off, the Scorpion BFS originally retails for roughly about $350 after the international currency exchange rate during it's production years from back in 2016 to about 2021.  That's when the Curado BFS was introduced to replace the Scorpion BFS coming in about $200.  In Japan it was the SL

Sufix 131 G-Core Braided Line

Well it was some late spring fishing.  I was actually trying to target some white bass.  I really wanted to get a feel for how this line would perform.   Again it was only the 6# test listed and spooled on the Shimano Twinpower 1000D spinning reel.  The rod was the Shimano Poison Adrena 6'10" UL/M spinning rod extra fast action.  Most of the lures I used was just the 1/8th oz Kastmaster, 1/8th oz Bluefox Flash spinner, and a small 1/8th Rebel teeny popper.     The line performed as exp

Evening Night Bite

Well I missed the morning bite and I figured I would just make an attempt at the evening bite.  I was planning to hit the local easy access community spot, but not really since I do have my own idea.  I usually see people show up for the evening bite as I am leaving, so maybe they know something I don't.  There were about half a dozen portables already occupying an area out there by the time I showed up.  However I do not plan to fish that area, the spot I am going to go too is just a bit away f

Sufix 131 G-Core Braided Line

My first field test of the Sufix 131 G-Core Braided line in 6# spooled onto Shimano Twin Power 1000FD spinning reel paired onto Thorne Bros Perch Sweetheart 32" cutom.  This would be one of the most expensive set up, both in reel and line.  I was really trying to test it out on crappies, but it just happen to be walleyes that were hooked up today.  While hooked up with fish, the combination was very high performance, it seem a bit too easy.  The one piece handle has a solid transfer of power and

Field Test: A Few bucket list items

It's another ice fishing field test for a few items:   The only fish I caught were a few crappies ranging from 6" to 10" and a perch at 9" in length. 13 Fishing Omen Ice Casting rod Medium power.   The rod is paired with Shimano Curado 70HG and spooled with Stroft GTM 7.9# line.  The lure I specifically chosen was Major Craft Jigpara Blade 3/16th oz.  I would say the rod overall is pretty impressive at it's price point.  While just holding it in hand empty it doesn't have any outs

Shimano Poison Adrena: PAD2610ULMA

Shimano Poison Adrena Spinning Rod: PAD2610ULMA   This is a 6'10" rod with an Ultralight tip section transition into a Medium backbone rod.  It is listed with an Extra-Fast action tip.  In a way that make sense.  I bought the rod on an impulse just because I was sort of wanting an Ultralight power rod.  After using the Zodias rods for sometime and I found them to be well performing rods I just really got curious about a higher dollar value rod in the same likeness.  In a way I am repea

13 Fishing Omen Ice casting 32" Medium rod

13 Fishing Omen Ice casting 32" rod in Medium power   I perused the 13 Fishing website looking at their products a month plus ago and saw that they listed some new ice rods for this year 2021-22.  On it listed several spinning models featuring full reel seat and split grip reel seat models.  So while just down at the local sports store, I happen by chance to spot an unusual looking rod and it turns out to be a bait casting model.     Listed key feature on the product tag: J

Shimano Curado BFS

Shimano Curado BFS I had ordered two of the reels upon the day after announced release.  However due to availability I awaited delivery delays for months.  It wasn't until almost the last day of August that I finally received the reels.  By then it seemed like the whole open water season was basically over, and I was thinking ice fishing already.  So I guess it will be all for ice fishing as was my main intention for these reels.  The best thing about these reels is the shallow spool design

Sufix 131 G-Core Braided Line

Sufix 131 G-Core Braided Line   This line is smooth, very smooth, as smooth as a baby's butt.   Well not, but being a 12 strand weave around a GORE Performance Fiber core line, it's by far the smoothest line I've held in my possession.  It is also one of the most expensive line I've purchased at just shy of $40 retail for 150 yards.  I purchased two spools, the 6# and the 10# spools.  According to Sufix listed diameters the 6# is at .14 mm and the 10# is at .20 mm.  These match up with

YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8

It really was my first open water test of YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8 and it was on both spinning and casting reels.  On the spinning reel is 14# label spooled onto the Shimano Sustain 1000FE mounted on a Shimano Zodias 7' Light power rod.  There is a short leader of Stroft GTM 5X 5.28# test of about 18 inches in length connected by an FG knot.  On the casting reel is 25# label spooled onto a Shimano Bantam MGLXG model mounted on a Shimano Poison Adrena 6'11" Medium+ power rod.  There is about a 5 fe

Shimano Zodias: ZDS70LA and ZDS70MLA

So I really got my first field test of my new Zodias Rod I purchased this spring. I did bring out both the ZDS70LA and ZDS70MLA. Since I only managed to hook up with fish on the Light power rod, it's really the only one that got the real test. Anyway for both rods casting is wonderful smooth and slick. I didn't put any additional effort other than the bare minimum. Lure retrieve also was wonderful for both rods and both rods don't even feel like 7 feet rods that's I've used in the past. I almost

FG Knot - Diawa J-Braid x8

It was just about two years ago when I decided to venture into a different braid line.  Sufix Advance 832 braid was a preference of mine.  So after receiving the Diawa braids, I gave it the good old line break test rundown on the knot to swivel.  There were good results.    Diawa J-Braid x8 .06 mm 6# knot break 8# 4 oz Diawa J-Braid x8 .13 mm 8# knot break 11# 9 oz Diawa J-Braid x8 .15 mm 10# knot break 13# Diawa J-Braid Grand x8 .06mm 6# knot break 6# 4 oz Diawa J-Braid Gra

YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8

So onto a little experiment with the FG knot testing of the YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8 and I crudely  tied it onto some Fluorocarbon leader of either 30 or 40 lb test.  I only did that one section and went to tie off the other end to a swivel like I normally would do so.  For the results the FG knot would not break and held throughout my test. I tried a variation of knots this time and use a different choice of line to act as a buffer for the knot. Line upon itself yield a result of 5# 9 o

YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8 & SS112 Sinking Braid

It's been awhile since I purchased any new braided lines.  The last batch of lines was a bunch of Diawa J-Braid x8 and J-Braid Grand x8, a couple of Fireline Ultra 8, and Nanofil lines.  On my list would be YGK G-Soul Upgrade X8 line and YGK G-Soul SS112 Sinking Braid line.  Well, shopping cart, submitted.  Well I ordered a few lines but I stayed with the small diameters again and keeping them under .200 mm for the most part.  This will put it in the same frame as most of the other lines I've us

Shimano Zodias - 2020

Spinning Rods ZDS270ML I bought the 7' ML Fast action spinning rod at the same time I bought the baitcasting Zodias Rod.  Originally I was leaning more towards a L power rod, of which they did not produce such.  So I settled on this one as I was looking to replace a Cabela's XML 7' ML rod that fishes well but had that butt weight system that weighs it down.  The rod comes with the same 8 Fuji Alconite guides plus a SiC tip like the baitcasting models.  I did use the rod to toss a lot o

Shimano Zodias - 2020

Casting Rods: ZDS170MLG I was looking for a medium light casting rod and this one sort of fill the specs I was looking for.  These rods retails for around $200 and getting a sale price on them makes them very attractive price point.  So I took a feel to it in the store and liked it enough to purchase it.  The rod has 8 Fuji Alconite guides plus a SiC tip guide.  Split Grip EVA foam handles and a Ci4+ graphite reel seat with an aluminum locking nut.   This particular 7' ML model is list

Detroit Lakes, MN

Big Detroit Lake, Lake Sallie and Deadshot Lake.    Bass and Pike were getting active this past weekend. Hitting on artificials. To be completely honest I was all rigged up for bass. We did OK with bass as it is a little early yet in the season. We knew it would be touch and go at best. But, the pike on the other hand were all over our stuff. We had broken rod's, destroyed baits, rigs getting messed up. Lol. It was a great time to say the least. All three lakes were shaping up to be in

Gettin ready for the season!

Getting ready for the 2020 season! Spent the weekend getting the gear setup and ready to go. Looking forward to trying out the new additions for the season. Did a little reel upgrade over the winter.

Mississippi River, pool 5a Texas Rig; Pit Boss with the heaviest weight I could find ? the second (pictured) Bass will probably be the biggest I catch all year. Just under 3 lbs. As much as I don't care for Pike. I had to show this hog my buddy pulled in this day. Northern Pike, weighing just over 10 lbs - look at that dragon head!
