Pike fishing Lake kabetogama

Recommended Posts

Hey guys and gals. I am going up to lake kabetogama around June 18 for 2-3 days targeting pike. I have been up several times and not caught anything over 25 inches. I want to try and locate a true monster this time. Any spot recommendations and or lure recommendations? Thank you!

troll large crankbaits up, down and across main lake points or reefs that drop into deep water. Islands near deep water work as well. I mean musky sized lures. Largest pike i've seen taken with that method on Sandpoint (very near and similar to Kab) is 46". Multiple fish in the 40's. It's not a super high productive method, but it targets size. You'll want crankbaits that get down a bit, not just stay in the top 6-8'.

If that isn't your game what i've found is that if you upsize your lures, as in casting musky lures to traditional pike spots you'll weed out some of the smaller fish. Again, it cuts productivity, but ups quality. So basically musky fish the lake. Main lake reefs, rock piles. points, islands and weedbeds. I've pointed this out in other posts. To find small pocket weed beds in that flowage system look for large aspen groves near the shore. Usually it indicates softer soil in the lake bed which means weeds. The weed bed may be small, but by gathering a milk run of 15, 20 or more little spots you'd be surprised the number and often size of fish that come off of a weedbed that has never been casted before.
