Spoons come in all sizes and will catch all sizes of fish. In your mind is it just as important to use a steel leader on a big spoon as a smaller spoon? With the leader are you mostly concerned with a bite off on the strike or cutting the line when they go into a death roll? Is there any time you don't use a steel leader? Reason I ask is my Pike are generally hooked in the mouth with the treble hooks. Does the Pike engulf the whole spoon and slide down the spoon until getting into the hooks?

Give me your opinions on the use of spoons and steel leaders. I'm not concerned with Floro leaders as I don't like them or use them.

Thank you.

I ALWAYS use leaders fishing pike. Regardless of spoon size. Caught pike in the mouth, had the hooks almost to there passage to the stomach, hooked in the hills, and where they missed and hooked on there outer body. And I use the leader for all the reasons you mentioned. I even use a leader when jigging for walleyes if I'm on a water wolf infested lake.
