  1. Hit the ice for the first time today about 6 inches of ice and lots of slush 3-5 inches deep. The snitch handled the work load with amazing results. The busy end was the smallest pug bug with a maki mino the crappies were racing up am crushing it. The gills would come up slowly but would eat it. Had a 3 to 4 pound walleye break me off in the top of the hole.
  2. A group of us are planning on getting together on Lake Osakis for the day on 8/18/18 for a day of fishing and a midday picnic at the Battle Point Park. We would enjoy connecting with some fellow anglers from the site to connect and have some fun. Osakis is a great lake for big gills, slab crappies, nice walleye, pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass. The best walleye bite has been during low light periods. Sunfish and crappie bite all day. We plan on taking a break around noon at the Battle Point Park for lunch. Right now tentatively looking to connect around 8-9 at the access. Otherwise

  5. Some of the shallowest panfish we catch each winter happen in March during late ice on many fisheries. Fun sight fishing patterns often emerge. Fish can sometimes be found in a few feet of water under the ice. Shallow weed patterns often come alive at late ice. Many anglers assume that aquatic vegetation has to be green and vibrant in order to hold fish. While still green weeds do hold fish, dead stands of weeds will also hold fish if the weeds provide cover and there is good oxygen. When the ice begins to rot along the shorelines and water begins to seep into the lake along the shoreli
  6. Last Thursday I got out in the Metro for a few hours with a buddy. We went out in the afternoon about 2 hours before Sunset and stayed for a few hours after it got dark. With the Sun up we punched a lot of holes, camera'd them and were able to find some thick weeds holding some good sized Sunfish. We fished those for a little bit and then pulled our shacks out a mile to a major piece of lake structure only to find that it was holding ZERO fish. On the way back to our launch point we stopped to check out a deep hole and found the larger Crappies to be roaming the edges suspended in the upper ha
  7. Not new to ice fishing but I can't seem to find the fish anymore around my neck of the woods in foley mn. so if anyone could give great insight of lakes times and maybe hints of baits and area of the lake would be awesome.

    Chasing Dogs Riding Bicycles

Chasing Dogs Riding Bicycles Chasing Dogs Riding Bicycles I woke up in a panic. I’ve had nightmares before but this one was different. You see no one was chasing me, I wasn’t falling from a high place and I wasn’t behind the wheel seeing headlights. I had just knocked off a bluegill at the bottom of the hole that I suspected was an honest two pounds. In a world where most anglers rarely find a one pound bluegill, this was a nightmare of epic proportions. Waking up safe and sound on top of the covers and coming to the realization that I had never hooked this fish was a huge relief. Fish
  9. I was wondering if and there is any good fishing in Hastings during the summertime lake Rebecca, lake Isabella, Vermilion River, or anywhere off the banks of the Mississippi? I haven't caught anything yet this year and I am itching to catch anything now. Just a fyi I just bank fish. Thanks in advance!

    Moose's reports

Went to a small lake up around Mille lacs lake and found 20-28 inches of ice. The access looked like some busted it up, so eyeguy and I walked out. We caught bluegills and crappies on plastics. It was windy and cold but we got a few nice ones.
  11. Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows of any small lakes or ponds in the metro that I can ice fish I know yout want to give away any of your spots so PM me and I will trade some spots. I am looking to catch bass, crappie or possibly walleye Tight Lines!

    What is too big

What is to big of a jig for gills? I have used 1/4 oz buckshots. I have watched gills come in while jigging for pike the are not going to eat that big spoon, but they like to look.
  13. Just moved to South Minneapolis (three blocks from Minnehaha Park), and was curious what are some decent lakes around the metro area to catch some fish. I'm not picky. I don't need monsters. I'm fine catching the dinks. But I'm not from Minnesota, so my knowledge of Metro Lakes is limited. The woman and I have been out to Waconia and then tried Nokomis a few weeks ago, too. Just not sure how to fish some of these lakes or where to find info, like lake maps, structure, etc. I know a good fisherman keeps great secrets, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Can anyone identify what is going on here?
  15. Well, it's Friday, March 18th. It looked like the warm weather this past week was going to put an end to my favorite time of the year to ice fish, but it hasn't ended. Last night temperatures dipped into the mid 20's and tonight we'll be be seeing temps around 20. I bet tomorrow morning a guy will have to use an auger to reopen holes. Yep, I'm crazy...crazy about fishing. Get your waders on, fill a 5 gallon bucket with everything you need, and get out for the last weekend. When you wade out to the ice and crawl on, I bet you tell yourself, I should've been doing this in the pas
  16. Just a reminder - Public meetings regarding 10 sunfish bag limit proposal on six lakes in the Little Falls Management area. If you can't
  17. Had some luck with the bluegills on Lower Prior Lake yesterday afternoon. Seems they were in pre-spawn mode possibly. A few squirted when I was trying to unhook them. Fished near weeds in about 10 ft of water and landed a couple of larger ones and a few mid-sized ones to fill out the pan. Was using a panfish rod and slip bobber with a 1/2 night crawler on a bare hook. Tried a few leeches also and caught a couple of small LMB. Hooked int one large one that snapped my line on my panfish rod. Might have been a little excited on that one. Toward the end of my trip I pulled a bottom bou
