The old Green box timeless classic. A lot of us grew up with those ? I even had a hummingbird super sixty for a while. They would still help you catch fish simple but effective!  Bought my first Vex at Lees sport shop another lost bait shop that was awesome!

I actually have two of them, both in good shape, batteries are hard to find for them! I do like how they stowed away!

I remember my 12' Sears "Wide" aluminum boat with a 4hp Martin recoil less start (wrap the cord around flywheel) fishing with are now considered antique lures. Some of my collection from years back. Googled the black man in a barrel found him selling for $100 (mine not for sale). Most were made from wood. Still recall the excitement of the 18# Norhhern caught on the zebra mouse lure on Sand lake by Bowstring. Didn't measure lenght back then.

I had a pile of those also but we used them when I was a kid and eventually lost them to snags or northerns. Had the black man in a barrel too but don't know what happened to that. Looking back on it that lure was very racist especially when you activated the barrel.

Seeing the old tackle box reminds me of when my brother bought one from a garage sale when we were much younger.  It had a bunch of really old lures lots of crazy looking stuff.  When we fish in Canada, it is easy to catch 100 northerns per day per person or more, just depends how many hours you want to spend chasing them.  To make it more interesting, my brother brought up the tackle box with the aim of trying to catch a fish on each lure.  As a bonus, there was a pocket fisherman in there, which if you remember is a closed face reel with a short rod that folds up into a tackle box.

And yes he succeeded in a day to catch a fish on each lure using the pocket fisherman never even changed the line on the reel.  I caught more, but that was no different than usual.

Loved that green box! 1976. Put us on the spots on Pelican Lake by Dunvilla. Put down a couple yellow markers and back and forth we would go. They had a house on broad water beach if I remember right

I would do a video on the black man in barrel but not really appropriate, besides the rubber band has lost its elasticity and fails to lift the subject. Seems to happen to a lot of things that get really old.

Yes!  High Five to you too!!!  (I left a few divots on that course as an idiot teenager...)

So you'd remember the smell of the old Honeymead factory?

(I fished the Minnesota a few times; caught my first turtle with a hook and line there... (~20 minutes later got him safely off...)  However, my sweet fishing spot was just up the highway from you:  where the Blue Earth and the LeSeuer river came together was a great spot to sit with my pappy, a bucket of KFC and nightcrawlers catching walleyes, cats, sheep and carp.  Good times!)

Im sure there are a lot of places in the world where disposable diapers are not common place. And I know there are people here in America that still do for various reasons

I inherited my grandpa's and dad's tackle boxes: Heddon River Runt Spook Floater, Bass Orenos, Lazy Ikes, Daredevils, some kind of spinner rig that look like a bumble bee, wooden slip bobbers, etc. I bought a green box in the late 70s, I think from Kmart. It ate through the pair of 6 volt batteries so when I got my boat I soldered on wires for a cigarette lighter adaptor to run off the trolling motor battery. I fished for years with a spinning rod and reel that my dad got for putting money in the bank.

Smurfy, it should be nice and quiet on your lake now with no fish in it. You should be able to social distance quite easily. ?

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
