I have been fishing the minnesota for the past 3 days morning and night have yet to get a bite, Can it be the high water or was it the guys fishing by hiway 4 bridge last year and they caught all the fish wink.gifwink.gif

I haven't been on the ice, but I do have a tougher time in high water seasons.

Here is what I think happens.

In slow flow or low water seasons the water temps stratify in the holes.

This happens because water is most dense at 39 degrees and sinks into the deeper holes. The slower current has a tougher time mixing the temps.

When the river levels are higher the flow is faster , and the temps mix easier and prevents this stratification.

When that occurs, one or two things can happen.

Either the fish spread out because those pockets or holes of warmer water are not there or you will find them concentrated in areas where there is enough slack water for the temps to stratify.
