Best Place to take my retractable wheel house

I bought a retractable wheel fish house from Ice Castle this summer and I plan on making several trips to Lake of the Woods this winter. Does anyone that owns a retractable wheel house have any experiences/reccomendations as to what resorts to go out of? I don't have a problem paying road fees or seasonal fees etc but was more wondering about how easy is it to go up there, get on the lake and find a place to park my house for a day or two.

Walter: Adrain's or Zipple are the best to go out of. But you'll have to pay 5.00 to use the road, however it's well worth it to be sure you get on and off with out getting stuck, or worse, they check the road to be as safe as you can be on Ice.. I have a wheeled fish house and I wouldn't go out with out being on a plowed road... I have spent the night on the ice too... I just think it's worth the couple of bucks each time I use the roads.... After paying the $5.00, I'm sure they'd be happy to let you in on where they're biting also.

Walterwontfalter, we take ours out of Morris Point. You don't have to cross over pine island that way. We tried Pine island once but it was so rough that we had a real hard time getting across it. After going out of Morris Point, we won't go anywhere else. After you pay and save 20 tickets ($100) they give you a pass for the rest of the year. Those tickets can add up very quickly.

7 or 10 dollars seems fair to me. I just wonder, how do you guys park your houses? Do you have a plow on your truck to open a spot? Park where someone else was? Pay someone to push a spot open for you?

Walter: Zipple has plowed circles off their road for you to park if the snow gets deep. Adrian's will push the snow for a spot if you ask. Those are the only two I've used so far. I've been snowed, or drifted in and a call to the resort you paid a fee to use their road usually will come out and get you to the road... 5/7/10 bucks is a bargin when you think of all the hassel of trying to dig a place yourself....Kaz

Morris Point will open up/keep a road to your house for you. Great people to deal with.

We use Wheeler's Point and the Adrians road. We leave our house out there for the season and Brian from Adrians plows us when necessary. Last year we had great neighbors and Brian would plow the whole area when requested. We generally tipped him $20 for each house. He will also plow you out after each snowstorm if you let him know you want him to. You need to have an identifying marker on your house so he can locate it. If you are going to drag it out there is usually lots of spots where people have pulled out or you can even get Brian to cut you a spot if he is out there. Personally I've never found a problem crossing Pine Island.

Thanks everyone! I was getting a little case of the last minute jitters after hearing all the problems in Mille Lacs last winter with some of the resorts charging 50 bucks a day and being jerks. I can't wait to get up there and I think I'm going to try come up next weekend. If I can't get on the ice I might just have a friend who owns some land there put me up in his yard and i'll bring the portable along. I really appreciate the info.

Dr Buck& All: If you are up on the 17th, be sure to come on over to meet some of the other FM'ers at the get together over Pine... If you have a FRS radio, tune it to channel 7 with the subtone set at 11.. Give us a shout and get to know some more new friends.... Saturday morning we're meeting at River Bend before heading out on the lake.... Hope you can make it.. The more the merrier.... Kaz grin.gif

Where exactly is morris point? I usually go out of Adrains when I drag my house up also but I have also had trouble a couple times crossing pine island. It would be nice to just drive out without the ice heave problems.

Black Max: If you turn left on County Rd 8, opposite way as turning to Sportsman's, and follow that to the west for a couple of miles, you'll see the sign to Morris Point.. It's just past the group of resorts on Bostic Bay... You shouldn't have any trouble finding it.... Kaz

Not good!!! 21 keepers for 3 guys- 2 days of fishing. Maybe threw back 6 small ones. The water is still very dirty. My best luck was bouncing a buck shot jig on bottom a 1/2 dozen times than lifting it up 6 inches and let it sit. Slowest I have ever experienced out there. Ended up going out of Adrians resort over pine island. When are you heading up??

Looks like the day after New Years will be the first I can get up there. Hopfully it will be a little better by then. If the fishing's slow I'll be sure to bring my John Valby CD's with to pass the time. Nothing stirs up the walleye bite like a good ol rendition of Barnacle Bill the Sailor!

Heading up to LV a week from today with the kids. Any advice for us? Staying on the West side but open to traveling if the weather permits.   The way the last few weeks have gone, might stay for good!!!

Do have Wi-Fi in your house. Your going to need that to work with any of the cameras that send a signal and video to your phone.  Hardwire is the best but battery power workers well for about two months then you have to pull them and recharge them.  It is nice to sit on a beach in Key West and keep an eye on your house when gone! 👌

With all the craziness in the world I’m looking at getting an outdoor security camera setup for my home. Anyone have ideas on what works well without a huge cost  and easy to do . Or is it better to go with a company to set it up.  We have recently had copper thefts in the area at farmers fields and bin sites and I know it will only gat worse as these things always do. I probably want something that hooks up to my phone as well and wondering if there is a good one with either battery life or if wired is better. Any thoughts are welcome.

Aren't they the ones that ran into problems about illegal bait? Anyone know how that turned out?

You launch on Moose Lake to get to the motorized portage. It's called Prairie portage. To get to the portage you put in at Moose Lake. From Moose you go into Newfound Lake. From Newfound you go into Sucker Lake. On Sucker is where Prairie portage is. There is a dock on the American side and on the Canadian side there is big sign welcoming you to Canada. Latourell's Resort runs the portage and the cost for the portage is $40 for a round trip.

Will that blond haired kid have that cool little orange boat in the show this weekend? Saw him driving around by Muskego Point a few times this summer.

      Hey  stranger!!👌

Nope, there are parts of Basswood that allow motors.   Entry is from Fall Lake, and there is (I think) a motorized portage.   It is really popular in the spring...
