Babler's Road, Gull Rock

Recommended Posts

TooBusy

Just returned from fishing near Gull Rock. Fishing was quite slow, but we managed to find enough to make a meal. Talked to Richard Babler and at this point he is certainly not encouraging pickups in the area. The main problem is the ice has a ton of breakers and areas of really choppy ice. He said that he probably was not going to be able to keep a road plowed this year as all those ice chunks are just too hard on equipment. He thought he was going to have to put up a sign that said he is granting access, but beyond that you are pretty much on your own. He really would like to take care of a road, but just doesn't think it will go this year. Right now people could probably drive on the ice, but I don't think he wants people to bring a bunch of permanent houses out there that he can't get at after a snow/wind.

I dont like the sounds of Richard not keeping up a road this year. Does anyone know if the guys over at longpoint maintain a road, going out to Twin Islands? We have used Bablers access for a number of years to fish near the Islands but have had to fight some tough going to get to and from, as there has never really been a road going that direction. Why does a guy always want to go where its the toughest to get to? Its like standing on the river bank and casting your line clear across to the other side. It Just has to be better fishing over there!!!!

Fished Gull Rock on 12-26...........Four guys caught our 8 fish a piece....Took awhile, but we managed to fill out...About Bablers road...we had 19 inches of ice at Gull Rock, and we when in the spot that you could tell was the area that was open(because it was the only area that was smooth) YES the ice is rough, but man if I was Richard I would do anything there is to make a road out to Gull/16....Maybe he has made enough 5 dollar bills to retire?????

How was the trip? I was on the lake Tuesday and the weather was as good as it gets!

For those looking for some decent perch they seem to be hanging in the reeds chasing crawfish and minnows.   Some real dandies in there if you're in the right patch of reeds.  Not many out on the flats yet.

Been a tough bite the last couple days for me. Catching a few here and there but no consistency. Caught fish on crawlers leechesand jigging raps but for the amount of fish I’m graphing not near enough catching All my bigger fish have came on the jigging raps. How is everyone else doing?

Tried my luck on Lory lake for some pan fish. trying to catch a meal. didn’t find any sunfish over 7” and a few 9” crappies. Not what I was expecting hoping for a little better. Might have to try a littler bigger lake for some better results.

Mmmmmmm~~~~ here's one for ya! For years we have been trying to get our fave Mayfly Rafts & Spikes into a booth at The State Fair. Rafts = ~~~  Honey Waffle coated with Dark Chocolate Glaze n Peanut Butter then sprinkled with Frozen Real Maple Syrup dipped Mayflys.  To die for. Spikes  =  ~~~ Deep Fried Triple Thick Cut of F&D Smoked Bacon dipped into Smoked flavored Pancake Batter an dipped in Maple Syrup then rolled in pile of frozen Hickory smoked MayFlys. Both Killer Pak~ons seved on a stick or in a Deep Fried Walleye Belly Fillet. Power good experience that takes you places you never been before'!! : )   Keep on rocken!   T

I bet one of those little cans of cat food would work too.

@cherokee muskie-mike is spot on the dog food... When I use to camp at hoodoo point campgrounds I tend to use nightcrawlers if I have any to spare (in a minnow trap). Caught too many rusties while fishing.
