Well the shiners have started to come into the Rainy. Adrian's got 10 to 12 dozen Saturday night with their collecting setup according to Rudy. We also heard that the bay NW of the green nav bouy in 15/17 FOW was producing several limits before noon on Wednesday thur Friday. Friday night a cold front went thru and Saturday in the same place the fishing was very slow. NW winds on Saturday AM created a rough go at the Gap. In the afternoon the wind dropped and we made it out to 34/35 FOW 330 degrees from the Gap. We pulled plugs, white, clown, and silver with blue tops. We boated several and kept 15 for three on board. Sunday we started at 7:30 AM in the Bay and filled by 10:30. Sevral charters and others also were in the 15/17 NW of the green bouy. According to the radio, 82, most were catching keepers... Also met a fellow fisherman at Adrian's Saturday evening who reads F/M LOTW page regularly, and knows what is going on here. I told him he should log on and join the group...He would be an excellent person to post his views here... Well sign on and join us!!! The next couple of weeks will be very good on the river if the weather stays normal... That's it from here...Kaz
------------------
KAZ

Great report Kaz! Thanks. I've been chasing down those BIG Red river Catfish the past few weeks, quite good Catfishing at this time of year too, posted some pics on the Red river forum. Anyone hear any scuttlebutt on those Big Sturgeon these days?
Fisky

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.

That's cute. My mother in law had all those little sayings. Her favorite was "Life's a betch then you die" so cheery. 😏
