What do you think the conditions will be like this weekend? I think it will be a sloppy mess with water everywhere. How long does it take typically for all that water to go under the ice? If it gets to 50-60 degrees it should melt off fairly quickly, but if it also rains that will be real tough on the ice.

Forcast is for 50-55 for Friday.<P>Warm Saturday, and Sunday as well.<P>I predict it will be a wicked sloppy mess.<P>It will take some time for that lake to suck up all that snow that is still out there.

I am bringing an innertube with 4 other innertubes ties together for my coolers of Old Mill'. If you see a crazy guy out on the ice with my fishing rod in one hand and a brew in the other while floating on an innertube thats me. If you wish to join me, bring your own tube. I'll have enough Old Mil' for everyone. Forget that, I need it more if I am going to be floating in a tube all day.<P>As George Carlin says, "don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweatty things"

Hunter, anyone who drinks Old Mil and thinks about swimming in a innertube better think about changing their drink of choice, or is it cabin fever, sounds like you have fun even if the fish dont bite. Good fishing

Fishnutbob, You sound like a guy who understands what I am going through. Cabin fever mixed with Old Mil' will mess with any guys mind. Looking forward to fishing the lake with no boudaries (snow), except for the Canadian one of course.

      Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion.  Ice was in very good condition.  Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park.  There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing.  The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out.  The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island.  There is a short spur road going east about half mile out.   The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes.  Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher.  The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight.  You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas.  There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off.  Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them.   Fishing was average.  Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit.  Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75".  Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes.   Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
