My wife has fished maybe 2 times in the past 3 years, but each year I buy her a license in the event she says yes to joining me one evening on the lake.  With the extra hoop, many may not buy the extra license, which would mean less revenue for the DNR.  It is small potatoes in the grand scheme of life but it is another obstacle created for reasons that just don't make sense.  Oh well life goes on...

Guys, going back to the original post, the DNR did this to be in compliance with state and federal laws, not just be a PIA.

It doesn’t have to make sense, it just has to make code, as my saying goes.

We don’t normally make a special trip to buy our combo license; we just pick it up at our best convenience either heading to the lake or doing other shopping.  It’s really not going to be that significant of an issue for us since we do travel and shop together fairly regularly. ?

I don't think it will impact anything... but I also agree it is dumb.  It's not logical that I can buy it on line sight unseen but need to be present at a store.

Seems you need more information to by a combo license than you need to vote?

I've been an online guy myself for lots of years, ( hated being the guy holding up the line answering  all the waterfowl questions back in the day). Like smurf said the wife and I were at FF today and it was a done deal fast and all the fall stamps too boot.

Good thing FF had to be connected to the state or they probably wouldn't have them either ???

There was an article in the Star Tribune about the operating costs of public natural resource agencies and their loss of revenue yesterday.  Its quite obvious based on the chart provided that the number of people participating is slowly declining and operating costs are staying steady or slowing going up.  There was also a projection given and if its accurate, operating costs will exceed revenue in 2025.  This is exactly what I'm talking about.  Creating obstacles, whether they may seem small in the grand scheme of things in terms of an overall budget, will make an impact.

2020 was different because there was a surplus of people participating in outdoor activities referred to as "the covid crowd" but that is not expected to continue.

I sort of understand why changes are needed sometimes,  but make it better not worse. Just tried to redeem wife's license as I got mine earlier.  Scan her driver's license and she pops up as it should.  Then input redemption code and it says there is a problem with her code number.  Need to call dnr. Call them and their hours are only M-F 8-4:30. So if today was a day we were actually going to fish, she is out of luck because its Saturday.  Please dnr make things better not worse.
