Humminbird Helix 7 Issue

Question

Posted

To the other Helix users.  I have a Helix 7 Chirp SI GPS G2 that I am having down imaging issues with.  I am sure it is a user error.  I have a lot of clutter on the screen.  Basically a horizontal line of clutter at every foot and the detail level is terrible.  I understand it is not a Mega unit but this lack of detail and clutter is not helpful at all.  I am on the newest software (2.000) and was having the same problem before updating the software.  I can switch to a regular sonar view and see fish and switch back to DI and do not see anything.  The only way to get that horizontal clutter to disappear is to take the sensitivity down to 1 or 2 and then I can't see anything anyway.  It is not networked, nothing else in use and transducer is off the back of the boat.

Do I need to make some other adjustment or selections besides sensitivity, contrast, etc.?  I have tried just about everything but am not having a great deal of luck and have gone back to default setting.  Pics attached from last weekend from a very clear lake with about 6 feet of clear visibility.

Thank you for the help!

LoonASea - Thanks, I have been looking at the tutorials but I can't figure this out.  I also spent 1.5 hours on hold yesterday with HB without ever getting through.

I did speak with HB tech support awhile ago and their advice was to go back to default setting which it did.

can you provide some screen shots or more info of your menu options and how you have everything set up at the time you took that pic?

Sorry - Not close to it right now.  Everything is factory default at this point except some color selection, depth highlights, low battery alarm and SI distance to 70 ft.  I was wondering if I should change the transducer setting or kHz setting but that does not seem right.

It seems like something isn't right with the transducer from the picture. Does side image work correctly? If you were to wiggle the transducer cable in on the back of the unit, does it affect the down image output on the screen?

I finally got through to HB support and they are sending a new transducer.  We will see what happens.

I think that Mike89 picked April 26 two hours before you, jparrucci.  Is that correct Mike89?

My last hide I gave to my Taxidermist friend to make what ever he liked out of it.   I've got a few fun Bear hunt stories to be told.  All 3 of us our first year stupidly tracking a blood trail in the dark together and getting lost, luckily smelled the bait making circles and got out. 🫣 Flash lights dying, deep in a swamp following a blood trail in the dark, the one who stayed at the bait called us back in!  We learned our second bear! Lol. 😞  Downing a wounded charging bear with the last bullet when tracking, no lie! 😬    Have had my fun!  🥳

I remember that kegel… stuff….!   just finished my post work latte as a matter of fact!  Only the second case of those I’ve ever bought.     I’d get Mike something better.

application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
