Hey Mtnman, looks like you had some luck even though the weather did not cooperate. Nice bass, I haven’t fished near major Roberts island since I was a kid...

My biggest fish of the trip. Only 4 pike caught in 21 days. I would highly recommend Rainy Lake RV for anyone who can't make it into Canada.  Cheers !!

Well, it’s November and ice is forming on rainy. Give you a picture of my last walleye of the season. Hope everyone has a safe thanksgiving. Stay healthy everyone!

Looking like NW Ontario will be closed again this year to US visitors, so it's back to Rainy for us in May. Made a lot of new friends there in Rainer and love the area. We are hoping for better weather than we had in September (less wind), but are excited to see what the spring will bring.  Hope Muskies and others can get us on track for the beginning of our fourth decade fishing up Nort !! In the mean time, enjoy the hard water.

Will keep everyone updated on ice conditions and water depth as the spring progresses.  Don’t think the border will be open until September at the earliest...at least here in Ontario. Things are finally starting to melt after our late February deep freeze....yesterday around 42 degrees F and today 36.

Here it is, first day of spring. Icy grip of winter is starting to loose it’s hold on the north arm. The spring walleye run is in full swing on the rainy river but if you go out the river is a bit low.

The Culver’s I mentioned is in The Villages, FL.  I don’t know where they buy walleye from but will ask the next time I am in the restaurant.

Couldn't get it to open, Got an error code from the forum. Look forward to May 23, and being on the water shortly there after. We've had a lot of time to get ready !!  :>)

Took a couple picture of the lake on Saturday April 3 at my dock. I’m guessing rainy lake will be ice free April 17 which is quite early Water is typically low this time of year and there has been very little run off from the spring melt so there may be a few more rocks showing if we don’t get any rain. Sorry about the video...still learning how to upload from my phone.

As of April 15, the Canadian side of rainy lake, from the causeway up to devils cascade, is ice free. I believe that is the earliest ice out. Water is coming up as we had 2 1/2” of rain last week along with 1/2” of snow.

That’s great Mtnman bringing your grandson up with you. The first week you will be up is Ontario opener but Minnesota opener is the week before. Will keep you updated. Good luck

Found this information and thought it would be good to share:

This from the CDN gov’t.  COVID-19 Notice: February 3, 2021

During the COVID-19 pandemic, unless exempted, foreign national boaters are not permitted to enter Canadian waters. Failure to comply with the current prohibition of entry for discretionary or optional reasons (leisure, pleasure fishing, sightseeing, etc.) may result in severe monetary penalties or criminal conviction and/or imprisonment. Visit Transit through Canadian waters for more information.

Opener on the Ontario side of rainy lake is May 15.

Good fishing to everyone!

As much as I want to be there, I'll stay on my side and keep my boat. Three guys last year were not smart enough to do that, and forfeited their boat and equipment. Lucky to get a ride to the border and escorted back to USA, rather than extended stay in the penal system. Sure hope to see a warming trend in the next two weeks. We should be at I Falls on the 23rd.  Get those rod ready Muskies !!

Went out for a couple hours Saturday morning. Caught 5 walleyes with the largest being 19” and a 19” bass. Water temperature was 60 degrees in the bay and 57 in the main lake. Water is about 12” low from normal summertime depths. Fish were caught in 7-10 feet of water casting a 1/8 oz jig tipped with a chub along a rocky shore line.

Excellent !!  Leaving Tennessee next Saturday morning, with a two day drive in store.  Can't wait to get there and hear the sounds of the loon. Looks like the start to a real warming trend is coming. Enjoy the day and thanks for sharing. We hope to send a few pics your way also.

Things are very dry up here along the Minnesota and Ontario border.  This was Tuesday in black bay on rainy lake. There is also another fire on lake namakan along the border.

Oh that is terrible !!. I had no idea it was so dry. We have had a very wet and cool spring. 80's to return here tomorrow, in time to make for a very warm drive. I pray they get the fire out and no more outbreaks this year. We are getting very excited, and ever so ready for that first cast. Thank you for the news and fishing updates. Perhaps we can do a hello, wave, and boat-by the border sometime in the next month !!

We are back on Rainy and so is the wind. Nearly blown away yesterday evening and last night. Two Bass and two walleye total for us, no one at the campground seems to be able to "find" them. When weather permits, we will try live bait in shallow weed lines. I believe the unstable weather is the problem and patients will pay off in the end. Dylan leads, with three of the four fish caught !!!
