I am just curious about the laws for this body of water - only perch and cisco would be open right now? Correct? I will admit, I have not yet spent time reading the regulations.

Thanks!

I followed the link and could not find Canisteo in the long list. This could just be me - I think I am getting a numb brain from being indoors too much and I am also developing a caffeine immunity. Yikes!

Canisteo is not a designated trout lake. There are also crappie and bass in there.

That's a logical explanation! Thanks for your patience with me! I do appreciate it!

I ended up staying at home to work on the dreaded "honey do" list. Typing that makes me feel sick

There is a good chance of thinning or bad ice out there now. Plus trout season is closed.

I know this thread is a year old but thought you'd be a good bunch to ask how the ice is on canisteo. Is the shoreline holding up? Was planning to bring a wheeler up there in the morning but will walk if I need to.

Great intel @Mojo88

Sounds odd the county is allowing a “private” gate to block access to public space.

What access are you referring to?

The buckeye pit access on the west end of lake. I haven’t heard anything about it in the 2 years it’s been since I fished Canisteo.

LOL, I think they have a problem for everyone not just those south of town!  ;)

Minnesota spends almost $9 million to stop mine pit from flooding Iron Range town

The appropriation for a permanent fix for the small town of Bovey was approved after decades of discussion on how to drain the Canisteo Mine Pit.
