reading on page 33 the next sentence says you can cull bass on mille lacs. And early in paragraph it says a fish is in your possession once you have caught and kept it.  confusing... lol    so I read this this way.  If I have 6 gills in my bucket of water for supper and only want to keep 6, if I catch one a little fatter I can cull.  The 6 are in my possession but I am not at my daily possession limit. so to me it sounds like the only place you cant cull before you reach your daily possession limit is mille lacs walleye

Would not release dead fish. They can’t swim very well.

Interestingly enough though you cannot transport fish over land in enough water to keep them alive in Mn.

In the discussion of daily limits and possession limits ,  let’s say you have one walleye at home in the freezer that was legally caught and kept , and is over 20 inches , that fish is still in your possession, so that means that if you are out fishing on a later day , and on a lake where it is legal to keep one walleye over 20 inches , your daily limit that day can only be 5 walleye and none of them can be over that 20 inch mark to legally be within your legal possession limit .

like I stated in a earlier post our regs are so confusing , especially to a average joe that just fishes once in awhile , it becomes easily to believe that a crazy amount of illegal fishing and possession of fish are caught and kept on any given day here in Mn.

Seems like Minnesota laws are really confusing and takes the enjoyment on of the fishing and hunting experience .

I personally don't find the regulations all that confusing. Maybe the initial discussion about eating fish on the ice. But for the average joe that fishes once in a while, these regulations rarely if ever come into play. If they fish 3-4 times a year they probably A. Aren't going to be catching their limit on a regular basis or B. Have tons of fish back home in the freezer.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a better way to address daily limits and possession limits that would be less confusing?  You have to account for what people have back home in their freezers - or some folks would have chest freezers full fillets.

They are not that confusing if you sit down and read them IMO...each of us learn differently but it is not that confusing.

Thanks for all the substance you’ve added. If I’m wrong, please show me. You won’t, because you can’t.

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year
