Lake travel on Lake of the Woods

How much snow is on the lake? Is it possible to get off the plowed roads a ways to set up a small wheel house. I know there will be drifts to stay away form but that is not a problem as long as there is not a foot of snow or more on the level.

Any update on off road travel via truck?

Off road travel via truck will be tough.  There is a lot of snow on the ice.  There was light rain a week and a half ago that crusted over.  I am aware of two trucks that have been out there for a couple of weeks, stuck and now buried in drifts.

i just got back from there, there was plenty of blowing and drifting snow yesterday, the snow level on the ice was constantly changing sometimes there would be a foot before you saw a drift to avoid. .    that being said its probably doable if you really set your mind to it, however i wouldn't get too far from a road unless i was very prepared and panned on plenty of time to get unstuck..

We were on the SE side Saturday 3/10. You could drive around with a truck IF:

1. you could get through the snowbank (many locations this was possible)

2. you could navigate around broken ice chunks and ridges (very prevalent). Many areas were clear and smooth for a stretch, then there'd be a long line of busted up ice that you couldn't traverse.

Snow was generally not an issue, aside from drifts. There's snow, but not a whole lot.

Thanks for your reply Deet. I am wanting to know about Long Point, Swift Ditch and Warroad areas I know theres a guy that maintains the road at Swift. Being able to get off and get around. Stay Safe  Good Luck   Bear55

Bear - Those trucks were rescued - I do not know when.  Out on Archie's this past weekend, there was a tandem Ice Castle with a truck out there - I do not know if they were out of Dale's or Warroad way.  Just interesting.  

The snow was not even getting sticky these past few days, but it is getting packed down on the trails.  Like stated earlier, the snow does not seem to be an issue, but rough ice can be.  Back in the day, i'd be out there with a truck and maybe ice/snow chains.

Bear- I'll be headed up tomorrow morning with the wife and kids to break in the new fish house. I'll try to post conditions while I'm up there if I have a signal but i'll post for sure on Monday. Anyone been having luck at any certain depth lately?

The shortest in pickup would be to go out of dales of course just have to be careful for pressure ridges.
