73 degrees or 73 walleyes?

Back up to 70 today.

LB,

Certainly not 73 walleyes today!

Very tough bite all morning for my clients. Only boated 3 small walleyes all morning with them!

Dropped them off at noon and went to a spot that I very seldom fish and boated 6 nice keepers in a little over an hour!

Figures!:P

Expand

Been pretty stable in the low 70s.  73, 74, depending on time of day..

With the cool nights, was 55 last night, and moderate days in the 70s, it seems likely to stay there.   Pleasant for water sports.

Thanks Del, my son and some friends are coming up this weekend for water sports fun!!

72 degrees again in Big Bay at noon today.

79 to 81 yesterday.  Amazing what a few sunny, warm, calm days with moderate nights will do.

A couple of cool days knocked the surface temperature down to 73 as of yesterday evening.

71 at our dock, probably drop into the high 60's with the cool overnight temps forecasted. this should really get the fish going...

What is the current water temp of Vermilion?  I left my boat/motor in the water and am wondering if I should worry about it freezing in before November 3rd when I get up next.

Posted

You will have no freezing issues if you return by Nov 3rd.

You should be fine, JL. I'm still fishing the West end (and catching) and today I found water temps in shallow narrows to be 42.6 and out in big, very deep water to be at 46.7. We've lost 6-10 degrees since last sunday in these same areas. Temps look cool but nothing bitterly cold to have to worry about things icing yet.

Posted

Thanks BFB and SM for the info.  Hopefully I can shoot a big buck early and have time for liquid water fishing yet this fall.  Will probably just tip the motor out of the water in hopes  I can get out November 6-10.

Saw a little skim ice in the rushes in Pike Bay today!

Thanks for the update, Cliff.  A little bit of skim ice shouldn't hurt my 40 year-old Johnson too much.

Glad to see we're on the same page...I'll be up 2 weeks from Friday...interested to see how water temp rises before Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks ahead of time to all contributors. Good luck this weekend, and Tight lines!

Took my last ice fishing trip of the season to Burntside on Thursday.  Went out on the snowmobile to fish better spots.  I waited until daylight to go out so I wouldn't get lost or run into open water.  When I got to my destination I discovered that the battery fell off of my Ion auger on the trip out (I won't make that mistake again).  I backtracked all the way back to the landing before finding it on the ice.   I got my lines in the water just before sunrise and caught a 24 inch lake trout 45 minutes later.  Always exciting watching the lake trout peel line off of the tip-up with their strong runs.  He quit running with the pike sucker soon after I took the video and I thought it may have dropped the minnow.  Pulling the line in by hand I could feel it still on so I set the hook and caught it on the lip.  Think I caught it before it was going to swallow the minnow and take its 3rd and final run.  Was nice to finally catch a laker on Burntside again after 5 straight trips getting skunked.   It was a beautiful day on the ice with good ice conditions, warm weather, and fairly calm winds.  The creel survey guy stopped and checked on me.  He said I was the only one he saw fishing on Burntside that day.  He said that most anglers he checked on Burntside that winter were skunked for lake trout, so I guess it was just not my problem alone.   20250327_072410.mp4

But, the deep fried Okra went in the trash can.  I've tried it a few times and it's just not for me.  Neither is Grits, chittlins, or crackling!  馃ぎ

I think it's alway fun to try local fish or foods when I go somewhere! 馃構 A few weeks ago I was down on Dauphin Island Alabama and tried a little flounder. They had small, mid and large. My wife had crab cakes, I got the mid! 馃槼 馃槅
