I shot one teal.  Didn’t give a lot of effort; just wanted to get out a bit and see how things went.  It was good to at least go through the motions and see some birds.

Finn and I went and scouted for ducks and we found a nice little pile in 3 places. I did talk to a dad and daughter and I pointed them to one of spots I had scouted. The dad thanked me and told me he would not be there opening day and I told no I want you to be there opening day as I have a couple other spots.

This begs the question: I have a 9 year old female british lab and the time is going to inevitably come when I will need a replacement.  She is still very healthy and a fantastic bird hunter, but last season I noticed that she did not have as much energy as she used, especially after the first hunt of the season.  When is a good time to start thinking about a puppy?  When she's 12, 13 years old?  I prefer to not have a puppy while she's still around because puppies are hell raisers and they torment older dogs endlessly.  I would prefer an early spring litter too so the dog is about 6 months old when the first hunting season rolls around.

The people I talked to said from 6-9 years old as then you always have lab in it’s prime

I always stagger my dogs. The amount of stuff the puppy will learn from an older seasoned veteran dog will outweigh the tormenting.

Also in this pandemic dogs have been pretty hard to come by. With everyone stuck at home more now they are buying dogs. If this is the new normal for a while you may have a hard time getting a pup from a litter. I would be devastated if I had to put down one dog and didn't have another.

Good luck to those going to chase ducks this weekend!! I will be out there with riverrat316 and Finn. I found a couple ponds way back in with some water and more wood ducks than I could count.

I dunno if I can say much better.  We’ve been averaging upper 80’s/100 on sporting clays this summer but alla sudden decoying geese became hard to hit last weekend?

We’ll see how she goes. Battle Coot is ready.

Always good to find a shed!

Time to use this meme finally.

Went through nearly a full box today to put down 5.  Mallard, wood ducks and teal.  I was picky with my shots.

Trying a different set tomorrow.  Hoping to get some ringers added to the mix.

It’s been a slow duck season and scouting to find a duck has been tougher than normal. How are you all doing?

Hazel is growing like a weed and goes to the vet Monday. I will update then for her progress.
