Any measurable snow the last 2 days

Recommended Posts

Coming up Friday morning and plan to head to the reefs.  Just curious if you got any measurable snow up there the past couple of sdays, and what kind of shape is the marked trail in from Sportsman's to Garden?  Thank you in advance for any information.

This blow over the weekend didnt produce snow and there is no more in the forecast to amount to anything till next Sunday.  You can drive anywhere with pickup and the black stake trail is marked and ought to be in fine shape for you to Garden and point beyond.

I was a mile off shore at Long Point in the best fishing spot I know of on the entire lake.

Just to be clear, Curt, you can drive a pickup to the reefs?

Shallow Runner

I would not do that, I dont know that there is a road. Cross country all that with a truck just doesn't seem like a good idea.  But I guess I have seen vehicles up that far before.  I cant tell you it is ok to do that

Thanks Curt,  Dang, I've heard you reference that spot in the past.  We're going to give it a try up to the reefs, will provide reports in the evenings for all.

Shallow Runner. No you cannot drive a pickup to the reefs. Curt was talking about snowmobiling up to the reefs.

For the sake of clarity, full sized vehicles are NOT recommended (yet) on MANY parts of the lake.  Arneson's Resort reported STILL finding areas of ice that were only 8 inches thick in places!!!  This report from just last Friday!  And these patches of thinner ice are not all that far from shore.  Our ice this year is MUCH thinner than we have in a typical year, and it still remains variable in thickness from place to place.

Be safe.  Be smart.  Check with your resorts and area services before you venture out onto the lake.

That was my thought, but Curt's reply above used the word "Pickup".  Not sure what he meant by that.  I did call Adrians today.  They said there road is out just over 10 miles and that there was a crack about another mile out that would prohibit anyone from going any farther in a vehicle!

I have heard it's because of the drought. I know in my area ( meeker co.) the sloughs that they trap minnows in have dried up.

Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.

Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.

Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?

Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!
