To be technically correct, roses can be red, but violets are not typically blue.

They are usually violet, which is a composite of red and blue, and on the bluish side.

In the traditional color wheel used by painters, violet and purple are both placed between red and blue. Purple occupies the space closer to red, between crimson and violet.[3] Violet is closer to blue, and is usually less intense and bright than purple.

As long as we are trying to be technically correct here, it should be pointed out that Alabama does not suck considering they are the #2 team in the Nation.

Pfffffftt.........Liberals. crazy

Oh great here we go again with the 'libertarian supremacy' delirium. Don't 4 threads about libertarian v liberal v republican v democratic conservative national socialist suffice?

Here you go ruin a cat hunting mouse trapping (and poaching) poetry thread with politics.

For shame.

Try to follow along Dave. Poetry doesn't always rhyme anymore.

And it hasn't necessarily rhymed for hundred or more years. That was one of the points of posting that poem by Yeats. " In 1923 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature as the first Irishman so honoured for what the Nobel Committee described as "inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation."

I did find out those fancy plastic traps are prone to jam and misfire when used in freezing rain/snow conditions.

Is there a spray or something to prevent this? Early winter makes it a problem.

I hear what your saying Del, had it happen last night, but did not have my go to trap, and you must have not tried the Jawz yet. Jawz are simply the best. Jawz plastic is a special proprietary poly formula that dwarfs the competion. Jawz has a revolutionary receptacle design, that holds a larger amount of bait than any trap on the market, not to mention the jaws on the Jawz will hold your prey in place longer if not getting a kill snap. Can't say enough Jawz ability to still fire when cold, and it's non sticking ability is second to none. Since I have started using Jawz, have seen my success rate triple.

I was using Jawz traps long before they paid me to use Jawz traps smile

How can you believe Push Button? First I believe he is violating forum policy by promoting a product and he's a paid Pro Staffer and I'd assume it's pushing 6 figures. He goes to "work" every day looking like a pro Bass fisherman wearing his Jawz jumpsuit, hat, Jawz Escalade with logos all over. If he offered you a beer he'd put it in a Jawz can cooler and he has a Jawz tattoo tramp stamp. He's a pimp for the company and looks like a Nascar driver.

I on the other hand am merely a regular guy with a bucket and a little "Skippy" peanut butter or "Nutella" on a can. Both Skippy and Nutella are fine brands; good tasting, great price and available at most major grocery stores. For more information on these fine brands please email me at:

marketing @ Skippy. com

Finally, I'm happy to say I did not catch a mouse last night. Hopefully the population has been reduced to close to zero. That must be because the Skippy and Nutella are excellent tasting products to both mice and man.

How does Jawz deal with rain turning to slush and snow and freezing temps? I need the utmost dependability in my gear. I hate it when a potential trophy gets away.

Jawz staff, myself included, is currently testing a prototype that will be introduced next year that will have a heating element running throughout the unit. There will be two options. A standard wall plug in with an optional 12 volt cigarette lighter plug in. For the run and gunners a lithium ion battery will keep us ahead of competition for years to come.

Nutella you say? Have always been using a cheap knockoff, but yeah, I bet paying more would be better. The the improved graphics on the label would be worth the price alone. Any pro staff positions available?

You need to build a plywood box with an overhanging ledge so the neighborhood puppies don't stick their nose in it. You are using a bodygripping death trap, after all.

The fact that Nutella and Skippy no longer have to make any improvements in their already perfect products speaks volumes. Pro Staff? We go the buxom route if you follow me. The interview process is much more fun that way. Many of our Spokespersons moonlight at Hooters.

I have been sent to time out two times in my career on FM. One was a long time ago and one was this Summer or Spring I believe. It hurts to get that email and then to have to fall on your sword and apologize. The last time was inadvertent but after reviewing the facts I did realize I had violated at least two of the rules and took responsibility for my actions.

In my cases, it was always one of these threads where passion took over and I lost my head. Once again it looks to be the case. If I didn't care so much I'd bet much better off.

Posted

Leech, you may or may not be happy to know that I built a bucket of death contraption like you showed on page 2 of this thread to get rid of some mice in my garage. It's kind of like that game show Wipe Out, although the end result is worse for the contestants.

Only got one so far, but considering I had 5 in regular traps before that I hope it's a sign that their reign of terror is coming to an end. Best thing about your contraption is you don't have to reset the traps every time or really even think about it.Just make sure to smear enough peanut butter on the can and you're good to go. Might have to try some Nutella to lure any final ones out from the shadows though.

Posted

Nutella? Does that work better? I have been using Skippy, with black sunflower seeds pressed on the top.

Sunflower seeds seem to catch everything when used in a live trap, except I hope skunks ignore them. Squirrels, rabbits, racoons, possums, and a cardinal have all fallen for them.

Mice I go body grip.

I thought baiting was "unethical"?

Please tell us you're not on public land with body grip traps. Or, at least using "Dog Safe" body grip traps.

My body grip traps are dog safe for sure, and I am on private land. As for baiting being unethical, that depends on the species. I think mice are allowed to be baited.

If anyone knows how to "take care of" crows, I need advice. No firearms please, the Mayo Clinic gets upset at shotguns across the street in the yard of our church. The police do too.

I didn't ask if it was illegal, I asked if it was unethical.

Scare the crows.

It has been tried. Nets over the trees helps, but doesn't do the job.

Are they black crows? Cause that was a pretty good band, not sure why you'd want scare them away. How many do you think there are? Cause I kinda liked counting crows too.

What size do you prefer? I like the Conibear .5.

Del that brings back funny memories. We had a house with mature trees and next to the post office. The crows were so thick our yard was blanketed with crow [PoorWordUsage]. The PD in our town would give you shells to replace the ones fired at crows. Eventually the crows left but there was a lot of dead ones before they did

Ok the ice was 15-16 inches and less than 2 inches of snow. It’s was -15 this morning and the weekend looks to be cold again. The fish were there but not biting with change in weather.

I guess the vikings are a lot like fishing.  Very entertaining but frustrating at times. I've probably been cheering the vikings for 50 plus years  that i can remember and once again it's all about (there's always next year).

On the South Shore... Ice fishing is going great on the south shore of Lake of the Woods, with resorts and outfitters reporting thickening ice conditions with two feet of ice in some areas.  Many ice roads are now open to 1 ton vehicles pulling a wheelhouse.  Every road has different weight limits, check with each resort for details before traveling up and out on the ice.      Some good fishing this past week.  As a rule, fishing activity is happening in 28 - 32 feet of water.  Resorts do just about everything they can to get customers on fish and this past week, some resorts made some long runs, resetting fish houses in new areas miles off shore.  Most are reporting good fishing as a rule.     It is common to sort through some small walleyes and saugers to get your keepers on LOW.  Naturally, some big fish are showing up, especially in deeper water.  In addition, this has been a very good year for jumbo perch with good numbers being caught.  Other fish in the mix are eelpout (burbot), pike, tullibees and an occasional sturgeon.      Anglers are using the one-two punch of jigging in one hole and deadsticking the second hole. In the jigging hole, a jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head or tail in gold / pink, gold / glow red, glow white / pink, or Wonder Bread have worked well.     Especially in the deeper water, some anglers are finding success on rippin raps or using jigging spoons with a rattle as well.     On the deadstick, a small jig with a live minnow hooked behind the dorsal fin set 6 inches - a foot off of the bottom is working well.  One day the jigging line catches most of the fish, the other day a deadstick is hot.     Electronics are very helpful to see suspended fish, know when fish are coming through and adjust your presentation to the mood of each fish.  Most resorts, outfitters and bait shops in the area rent electronics by the day.   On the Rainy River... The Rainy River is still producing some nice walleyes and saugers, primarily in the mornings and evenings.  A jig and minnow working well.   Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing continues to be good for those targeting them.  An oversized hole, or three holes drilled together, with nightcrawlers or frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig fished on the bottom are what anglers are using.     Ice conditions on the river can vary significantly due to the current. To stay safe and maximize success, always work with a local resort or outfitter familiar with river conditions.    Up at the NW Angle... Ice fishing continues to be very good up at the Northwest Angle. Resorts have fish houses set up on various pieces of structure as well as adjacent to structure in deep mud.  A consistent mix of walleyes, saugers, jumbo perch, pike and tullibees in the mix.     Shallow structure is best right away in the morning and as the sun starts going down in the late afternoon.  Mud is more of a slower bite but all day.   The ice road from Jerry's on the mainland (Angle Inlet, MN) to island resorts (as of this past week) was open to 1 ton vehicles.  Guests drive right to their island resort after picking up a road pass at Jerry's or Point North Services.  Venmo is also available at all resorts.  Work through your resort for specifics.   Ice fishing is in full swing across Lake of the Woods and there are openings for lodging, fish house rentals, sleeper fish house rentals and meal plans across the area.  Ice fishing is extended on LOW with fish houses allowed on the ice through March 31st, walleye / sauger season open through April 14th and a pike season that never closes.

From your fingertips to God's ears...  Finally got some snow!   Several inches of new snow fell before and during the weekend.  Sunday eve when we left, the high winds had already begun to create some drifting on the lake.  It was fun riding for sure.  Lots of folks on the lake this past weekend too.  We fueled up the sleds at Shamrock and saw as many people fishing in that area as I've ever seen in the Winter on Lake Vermilion.     Our weekend results were decent.  Jeff and I and a buddy caught probably 50 walleyes between the three of us, mostly fishing a jig/plastics with our three biggest being 24", 25", and 25.5".  We also got one large pike of unknown length.  During the midday on Sunday, we targeted whitefish and Jeff managed one big one.  We released all of our fish, except for three small walleyes that our buddy wanted to bring home for a meal.  Definitely a fun weekend on Lake V!

The Vikings are the Vikings so it's nothing new.  It is kind of sad that Darnold's off season stock is now going to drop like a rock after these last two games. It kind of shows he's not a big game guy.  🤔

I'm blaming leech... his food selection has been lacking game days recently  🤣
