Gopher Football 2014

7 yards passing.

That is pathetic.

You can say that again. 1000 times.

4 years in to the program and we are 1-7 passing against san jose st. Really? I don't care who is in there at qb, Leidner aint much better, that is down right pathetic.

We won't win more then 3 big ten games with that slop.

I do like the defense quite a bit, but wow..... the offense is so inept they don't really have a chance.

YOU AINT GONNA RUN FOR 6 YDS A CARRY IN THE BIG TEN JERRY!!!

If you were told the gophers had 387 total yards on offense and won by 17 would you be satisfied with the outcome?

Not when the opponent is San Jose State who gave up almost 60 points the week before. You schedule these week teams as tune up games. The idea is to be able to practice just about anything you want and still win by 30+ points.

How many Big 10 wins are you predicting?

3 or 4 depending if they don't get any more injuries. Brown jug coming back this week.

Good Luck with all that.

By no means do I think the gophers are a incredible team. But I don't 3-4 wins in big ten is unreasonable.

The michigan game should be pretty interesting. Their offense and defense is pretty bad. If we pass the ball a little bit, we have the best chance of beating them we've had in years! I really don't know what to expect...could be a shootout or we could lose by 4 TD's.

I'll say it again, Nelson set this team back years...he was supposed to take over this team as THE dual threat QB for the next 3 years and it just didn't pan out that way. It happens.

What we're seeing now is a pretty good over-all Gopher team being led by two back-up QB's...frustrating!!

The Gophs are heading in the right direction...the team as a whole is better than what we've seen in quite some time.

All but one postion....again, frustrating.

PSSSST..........Philip Nelson was not very good either.

He may not have been very good, but a better passing QB than Leidner AND have the chance to put two QB's in there that had some experience. It would take the pressure off a bit.

I hope Streavler plays this week and I hope they try a few more pass attempts, but if the running game is working I could care less if they have 300 rushing yards and 5 passing as long as they are moving the ball and scoring points. They really have no weapons to throw to anyway. Williams is dinged up. They have some Freshman they are high on, but were hoping to redshirt them. My guess is they pull the redshirt before the season is over at this rate.

Nice win.

Cobb has been fun to watch and the defense is good.

4-1 going into bye week. Only loss to solid TCU team.

Happy for coach kill. He does well wherever he goes.

Looks like you are doing as well this year as you did last year in the Gophers thread. laugh

I don't even understand what this means?

It was way more than a nice win...it was a beat-down in the Big-House.

In front of 102K fans...the Gophers completely dominated a team that has kicked their a$$ for DECADES...no need to apologize for the state of Michigan football here. It was a beat down...plain and simple...in their house!

If Liedner can play the way he did today, combined with our run game, this could be a very fun season. Liedner is the key, obviously...he needs to keep showing promise in the passing game. He doesn't need to be great...he needs an OC who understands how to use him. I think that happened today.

Off weak now...time to get some people healthy.

The next 4 or so games are very winable...just sayin.

I like the way this TEAM is heading....

65k of those fans got free tickets.

Michigan is a garbage team this year

This win is absolutely meaningless.

They beat a team that any High School team could beat.

I don't care how bad Michigan is, it was very enjoyable watching the gophers dominate them! I took it in as best as I could, because it may not happen anytime soon eek

With that being said, what's with the death wish Brady Hoak had on his QB? The kid was getting beat up all game, then gets an obvious ankle injury in the 4th quarter, and Hoak leaves him in! Then when Gardner finally does go in (too late to make a difference), the offense showed a little spark.

I'm glad we have a bye this week. Let the players cherish this win a little. But also allow some time to pass so they don't suffer from a hangover in the northwestern game.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
