Take a good look at the 2012 election map that reflects the state size by population instead of simple acreage. Tuesday may be the lowest national turnout since 1942 by % voting. Advantage republicans. Turnout in 2016 will be like 2012. And the map then will look a lot like....full-47570-50754-images.jpg

Also voter turnout rank vs Presidential voting in 2012:

1. D - Minnesota

2. D - Wisconsin

3. D - Colorado

4. D - New Hampshire

5. D - Iowa

6. D - Maine

7. D - Virginia

8. D - Maryland

9. D - Massachusetts

10. D - Michigan

11. R - North Carolina

12. D - Ohio

13. D - Washington

14. D - Oregon

15. R - Montana

16. D - Florida

17. D - Washington D.C.

18. R - Missouri

19. D - New Jersey

20. D - Delaware

21. D - Connecticut

22. R - North Dakota

23. R - Louisianna

24. R - Idaho

25. D - Vermont

26. R - Nebraska

27. R - Mississippi

28. R - South Dakota

29. D - Pennsylvania

30. R - Alabama

31. D - Illinois

32. R - Wyoming

33. R - Alaska

34. R - Georgia

35. D - Rhode Island

36. R - Kansas

46. R - Tennessee

47. R - Arkansas

47. R - Texas

49. R - Oklahoma

50. R - West Virginia

51. D - Hawaii

It is a very strong correlation. And yes, in 2016 voter turnout will be considerably higher in 2016. Midterm elections are always "old people enjoy huge 25+ point advantage in who votes". It has nothing to do with Democrat or Republican messages, but more of a general attitude that President is the only vote that matters in young people. In Presidential years, the margin is much closer and things tend to be decided on the issues, not who old people favor.

The denial in this thread and others related to the 2014 midterms is astounding. They either believe or are trying to convince themselves that because voter turn out was not as high as in 2012, the president and his policies are actually popular.

They, like the president, believe that an apathetic electorate is really an endorsement of BHO. That's why the president made that "for the 2/3rds that didn't vote" line

In fact, this president is unpopular, so much so that Democrats running wouldn't even admit to voting for him.

They will not or cannot admit BHO is the problem and the reason why last night happened.

The denial in this thread and others related to the 2014 midterms is astounding.

All the while forgetting they have a president whose unpopular, whose policies are unpopular, so much so that Democrats running wouldn't even admit to voting for him. And he now polls low amongst practically every demographic group with the exception of black people

They will not or cannot admit BHO is the problem and the reason why last night happened.

[Well Republicans held the house, and their goal was to make Obama unpopular. I'm not speculating or paraphrasing here, it is a direct quote:

So it's everyone else's fault why BHO is unpopular? LOL!! That's a new one!! laughlaughlaugh

You sound like Hannity and others who blamed GWB's unpopularity on the media

Besides, the GOP only held the House since Jan 2011

The president is merely a victim. Even though the GOP is also unpopular.

If folks want to know why this president seems to exist in an alternative reality, look no further than his dwindling base of supporters

Nothing will ever cut through that level of misplaced devotion. Like I said earlier, his supporters cannot or will not accept that what happened Tues was a result of him. Not just a result of the normal midterm dynamics, or any love for the GOP. BHO...100%

However, the Democrats who will be in the House and Senate know the truth. It will be interesting going forward to see how many of them will stick out their necks and risk their jobs for this president. And after Tuesday, it will be interesting to see how many of them want to go into the next election cycle as defenders of ObamaCare,

The history books are going to describe these recent years in harsh and embarrassing terms For a major political party to freely and openly admit that it's main goal is the destruction of a sitting president is one of the most despicable periods in our history. He may or may not have been the greatest man elected to that office (I suspect he will be treated well by historians) but it is very difficult to pull the wagon when you have little or no help and in fact have people pulling the other way.

The GOP has gone way down in my mind even though I have many friends-still friends- who are lifelong believers.

As a party, it ought to be ashamed and I think that will finally come to some of them.

The country elected a young man who perhaps was not ready for that high office but did the best he could with the tools he had. But truly, how many of us ARE ready for that mighty and powerful job?

Some of his own party is trying to disown him. Does that not tell you something?

Well Republicans held the house, and their goal was to make Obama unpopular. I'm not speculating or paraphrasing here, it is a direct quote:

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." - Mitch McConnell

It's easy to understand why Obama is unpopular when that is the vast majority of the Republicans efforts for the past 6 years.

How have they done it? They have made every effort to make Obamacare fail. Remember Boehner trying to sue the President. Let's review the reasons why:

"In a 225-201 vote, the House told Mr. Boehner (R., Ohio) to move ahead with the suit. House GOP leaders have said they would focus the suit on the White House's decision last year to give employers a one-year reprieve on enforcing a requirement under the Affordable Care Act that they offer health coverage or pay a penalty. The requirement was delayed until 2015, and the White House then revised the health law further by saying employers with between 50 and 99 full-time workers wouldn't have to comply or pay a fee until 2016."

Read that carefully. Boehner sued to President for delaying implementation of Obamacare. Why would Boehner want to see Obamacare implemented sooner? That's right, because he wants it to fail. He would rather see people suffer due to provisions being enacted before they were ready just to garner more hatred for Obamacare than to protect you from the harm implementing it too hastily would have done.

Yeah, well you got a point there.

But it's quite natural for sane rational people to take exception to having their wagon pulled off a cliff.

Nick Kuhn that was probably the stupidest post I have ever read.

Their posts have a Yogi Berra type ring to them.

"The president and his policies wouldn't be opposed if he had no opposition to them"

I guess I didn't see that one. I did see Obama saying it was very unlikely Ebola would come to the US, like a week before the guy in Dallas got sick.

It was a radio ad put out by the MN GOP on monday/tuesday. I heard it 2x on the way into work, 2x on the way home on monday, 2x on the way in on tuesday, and 1x before I got to the polls tuesday evening.

I thought it was a spoof at first it was so ridiculous.

Here's that comic explained for you - in case you did not get it.

In the comic, by comparing three graphs, Cueball comes to the conclusion that the audience (presumably the owners/operators of "our site") should adjust their content or advertising to cater to Martha Stewart and furry porn fans.

The actual reason the graphs are same is they all match the population concentration in the US, because there is no relation between geographic location and any of mentioned sub-population. The title text reflect similar situation in world maps, where the HSOforum written in English is read by English-speaking users no matter the location, so the visitors' geographic graph matches the graph of English speaking population.

aka "the anomally", embarressed the family again. laugh

No House Republican incumbent lost this year, in fact, it appears that they will gain 11 seats.

Ouch, embarrass me sum mo...

Party on... grin

I would guess the messages in this thread are the same as would have been posted in 2010. For all the very same reasons and arguments. It was bit sad, but very funny to pics of devastated surprise when Dems won in 2012. Again I suspect we will live this all over again in two years.

That explains it. I rarely listen to radio that has commercials. KRPR and MPR News and Current are about it.

I don't think we can get into more details about Martha Stewart and Furry Porn Fans here on the GOP Echo Chamber good old HSO. Even in sillytown.

I was stuck in an ice house on a lake up in Ely for a whole weekend and the only channel I could get on the radio at all was Moscow's Peoples Radio!

It was hard to listen to them go on and on about one special needs program after another and if they could just get some more funding for this or that they could save the world! sick

Weird, because MPR is mostly entertainment shows on the weekend.

I think somebody's stretching things a tad.

KRPR is supported by donations. And since I am paying for MPR I might as well listen to it.

I take it you don't drive on Government roads? Or eat Government subsidized food? Or fly on Government subsidized airlines? Or catch government managed fish from government owned waters?

Good on you. I'm not that pure.

We just returned this afternoon from 6 days on Vermilion. We arrived Saturday and enjoyed 3 fantastic days of walleye fishing. My cousin, our friend Greg, and myself fished several of our spring spots and found fish on all of them. Water temperatures were pretty much 65-67 degrees everywhere we fished. The wind was variable and made boat control a challenge at times. Bait was not an issue and we had success on crawlers(Tim), leeches(Greg), and minnows(me). If I had to pick one of those as catching the most fish, it would be crawlers. Our best day totalled 48 walleyes, 4 smallmouth, and 2 big JUMBOS. We ended up with over a hundred walleyes, 12 jumbos 11"-13", and 10 smallmouth to 18". Our biggest walleye was 24.5" and the balance went from 13"-22". There are lots of 14"-16" walleyes this year which are perfect eaters. The mayfly hatch was in full bloom in some areas but we found very few mayflies in the water column over rock reefs. We caught our fish in depths ranging from 10' to 32'. I didn't fish in any area where I could see mayflies top to bottom in the water column. Slow trolling in the .3mph to .6mph worked and we caught nothing using slip bobbers. Terminal tackle was a 3'-4' 10# flurocarbon leader, 2 lime colored beads, and a plain #6 Gamakatsu walleye hook . Snags are always an issue when fishing in and around the rocks and when the fish are biting they are acceptable. NOW, for the bad news.......Tuesday was a day I won't soon forget. The area suffered devastating torrential rainfall. Lightning was non-stop for several hours and when things settled down, flood damage was everywhere. We checked our rain guage on the side of the cabin and we got 7 3/4 " in a little over 4 hours! Breezy Point road washed out, Mud Creek road washed out as did several others in the area. Cooke business area was completely covered with flood water. I would consider it a disaster area and should be declared as such. We couldn't find a dock anywhere that wasn't covered with water. People were stranded behind flood covered and washed out roads. Dock decking, limbs and such were floating everywhere in the big water. My group sends our prayers to the people of that beautiful country that lost their businesses, homes, and suffered damage to their lake properties. The people of that north country are resilient and we have confidence that they will recover. We stayed our final 3 days but didn't fish at all Tuesday. Our last 2 days showed the effects of the storm. Water temps dropped to 64 degrees and our premo fishing became 10 walleye days. We did manage to catch a dozen really nice jumbos. We plan on returning in September and we pray the area will have returned to normal by then. I haven't figured out how to transfer photos from my phone to my computer yet so no pictures at this time. Good Fishing and God be with you. MarkB

Word is that the river has peaked and therefore the town can start the process of recovering sooner.
    • smurfy
Heard that too. Also heard 38 was closed for a but north of rapids due to flooding.    I know the water really came up when I was up last week compared to when I was there in April.
    • Kettle
Someone said 4 inches in the past week, more expected this weekend. A few roads, including county roads that are asphalt ended up with sink holes. Lakes are the highest I've ever seen in the 30+ years coming to the area and now living here. Several people lost trees Tues night
    • smurfy
Dang Kettle  that bites. Great to hear fishing was good though.   How much rain you get up that way?
    • Dash 1
50 in 6 hours is great. Boat issues really put a damper on a great day though. Hope you get it fixed quickly.
