I figured I'd throw this up here just so I don't forget. Don't expect anything from me soon since right now is ice fishing time, but I'll be back around mid march with some big perch on a fly...if my spot is still producing smile

Well, I'm about ready. I spent tonight getting my rods and reels checked cleqned and ready to go. Good thing I did to, I found a little problem with my backing knot on my 5wt, which is my backup carp rod. That would have sucked to lose a line like that.

Do you trust your backing knots?

This one went 28.5 inches and nearly swam away before the photo shoot. It broke the line and I nearly took a swim picking it out of the water. Its a good thing I was able to grab it. I like that little fly wabamske sent in.

VERY nice. That's a fat pike! You caught those fish on the orange fly that Bamskee sent, eh? Looks like I know what I'll be trying out when I get down to the river.

Yup, that's not the one I missed that I mentioned this morning... the one I missed was smaller.

Really nice pike, diggin the color pattern on it.

Yeah, too bad it now belongs to the stream. Oh well, I think I can tie a few more.

Haha, after seeing the perch and pike I'm kind of surprised you kept it as long as you did

Only 8 more days until I get to throw a fly again...until then, I'll have to deal with this:

Sunsets in Malaysia are awesome, partly because of the Indonesian policy of burning down the rainforest to plant palm oil crops. crazy

I wish. One of these trips out east, I'm taking a week to wander through Thailand with a fly rod, just not this one.

I cehcked out a local lake this morning mostly to scout. I found a couple nice bass hideouts that I will be hitting soon along with a bunch of carp. The bad news was that of the 20 carp I saw, 19 were schooled up playing grab a $$ still. Only found one tailer, but the water was high and cloudy so I spooked him before I could get a fly out.

I hit three separate bodies of water on Sunday.

The first one was intended to be a carping outing, but the recent rains/wind have left the lake high and very cloudy. I cast to several bubble spots with nothing to show for it. I never actually saw a carp the whole time.

Second place was my honey hole....which had 11 boats on it by 11AM...so that one's getting raped this year. Too bad, lots of nice fish were in there.

Third was the river. Very, very high so I was mainly just canoeing around. Found some cool spots which I plan to fish later on.

Been out to the spot lately?

Looks way high still. Last year I thought it was high at this time, this year is even worse.

I stopped over there after my adventurous last week on my way to Casa Lupita and saw a guy landing a decent carp... definitely high water, and just as crowded as it's been all year, but I was pleased to see the carp seem to be eatin again.

been too busy around here to get fishing in anywhere but at the cabin. Hopefully that changes here soon.

The lake my cabin is on is having a bit of a Columnaris outbreak in one of the year classes of bluegills, which is makin my am coffee casting a bit more difficult. I'm just glad it doesn't seem to be hittin the big gills, the 9-10" gills I have landed so far this season are all very healthy lookin fish.

I'll probably get out there once this week. Between work and life, yesterday was the first time I had been fishing in about two weeks. It had been too long.

Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.

Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.
    • PSU
Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?

Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!
    • SkunkedAgain
I hope to see it and believe it next week! Nice looking crappie
