On the south east end of the lake between 12 and 24 fow there is 10 great inches of ice, we we are making alittle every day since there is no snow out there and atv travel is good!

Awesome! The wife and I are headin up tomorrow morning. What's the best place to access the lake on that side? Only been there a couple times.

After a quick check of the ice today from Denny's Resort to Big Muskie Bar I can say there is a good 11 inches of ice out there not sure what's beyond that yet as it really does not matter cause there's plenty of good fishing grounds ready to be fished!!

Ryan .... any vehicle traffic as of yet? If not, when do you think it will start happening? Croz

No vehicle traffice yet and not sure when but I will post as soon as we are letting vehicles go out.

Was out on Sunday morning on the south shore. Took the wheeler out being there was suitable ice. But if one does not have a wheeler, it is very easy pulling right now..

We were on our way back from URL and wanted to give it a whirl (Seems to be an annual pit stop for us). Anyway fishing was great, countless perch, 5 pike, 1 eye (but 26"), and lost a huge pout at the hole---Every thing released....

Was worth the stop.

As of today's check there is 11-12 inches of ice, travel is great. For me getting houses ready and checking ice I have not done much fishing but, have heard of a couple good reports from a few fisherman who have went out so far, and I have done a little bit myself, with the stable weather coming in and great sheet of ice the fishing is going to be good for a while. We will have some day houses along with 2 and 3 person sleeper houses out by the weekend for those looking to get in on some early ice fishing action.

Can a guy drive a car out onto Winnie? Just curious, being I might come up there next week.

Posted

Obviously pending we don't get any more snow.

Posted

You can drive a car, half tons are good to go to within reason to, please stop in before venturing out.

Ryan. I'm Looking to take some coworkers out this winter for some tulibees. Do you have sleepers that you can put us on top of them?

Ryan,

A buddy and I are going to red but want to hit Winnie on the way back sunday. I'm just wondering where your out of and if there's a phone number that I can call on sunday to find out if light truck traffic is allowed out.

Thanks,

Tony

Thanks Gunner,

Any one have suggestions on what resort to go out of for perch and panfish?

We are just east of them on the Sand/Bowsring chain.I hear most about Denny's & Ryan P, along with Highbanks on that side of the lake as I think they do the most to maintain roads. We've had some good experiences(open water) with McArdles as well. They are farther around to the west, where the Mississippi enters.Give them all a call.

Fishing has been good here on Lake Winnie mornings and a hour or so before dark has been good for walleyes, perch and pike are going good during the day. Travel is great Denny's Resort is letting half tons out we are sitting at 14-15 inches of ice as of my last check on Sat.

I'm fairly new to the lake and went out of Denny's resort yesterday. Followed their advice and fished in 14 fow for walleye and smacked them on and off all day long. Had a hole full of small perch but every half hour or so a few walleye or northerns would come in. Caught about 13 walleye and 4 Pike. The walleye bite was great for an hour before dark.

Glad to hear you had some good luck & Happy Holidays

Speaking of the river. Got my onX app.  I might have to ride my dualsport up and check out that state land on the otherside to sluice up a bird!  馃ぃ

At least I know now that I should keep an eye out for the stealthy one flying through the water, rather than over it!!

Just thought it looks like something you might see coming to your call, across the river!  馃ぃ

Try contacting Cody Hill.  He鈥檚 always on the fish and based in Pelican Rapids, just southeast of Moorhead.   https://www.chillguideservice.com/about-cody-and-chill   Those are your closest lakes.  Otherwise, like mentioned, the Red River is your best bet.  I鈥檝e never fished that area though so I can鈥檛 give you any starters.

i'm going to be there for a couple of weeks, will have facilities but I'm more than likely to be doing just  catch and release so don't mind what i catch.

Well, we had our first one in over a year.  I didn't think anyone would be interested in stem cell research so he went away!

Welcome to the FM site. Lot of questions that would be helpful, to help you. How long are you staying? If only a few days and you have the money a local guide is going to be your best bet to get on fish.  Are you just doing catch and release or are you going to have a place to clean and cook fish?   In the Red river your more then likely going to target catfish. Hopefully a few of our members who live out that way can chime in on some cat fishing setups or spots.  Good luck.

I am visiting from the UK to the Moorhead area in the coming weeks and would like to do some fishing while there.  I am trying to find info about what is available to me. I have a variety of gear that i could bring, but am a little restricted by weight limits on the flight. I understand the red river of the north is close by and as the land of 10000 lakes, I am sure there are plenty to fish in.  I appreciate that I will need a local license and I understand I can get this on-line. I would welcome any tips regarding locations and fishing tackle required in this area. I am happy to fish from the shore.  I have also searched for guides in the area but with little success, again and info would be welcome.  Thanks
