So far all I have used is the AE jr, I have not tried to the full size. My fav colors are gold, pink and white (crappies), and perch. I have to stock up on the perch colored one this year cuz it seemed everytime I used it last year it got broke off on a fish and I wouldn't have a spare smile.gif
As for tipping, the most productive for me the most often was using the tail end of the minnow, about a 1/4 to 1/3 of the minnow. I think too much bait on the hook kills the action of the spoon.
Who would want to really control the spoon, it's the things erratic action that brings the fish in. Even when they don't hit the spoon the dead stick next to it quite often will see some action if they decide they want an easier meal smile.gif
[Note from Rick: You can see and order
Angel Eye Jrs and Glow Devils by CLICKING HERE.]
[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 11-23-2003).]

I do not know if they are as good as the Angle Eyes because I have not fished AE's that much.
Steve - I could not find a picture for ya bud. If I come up with something I will shoot you an email. You probably do have some - I'll check next time I make it to Duluth to see if GM still has them . They are gold on the back side, have a gold treble (sharp little buggar) and a single eye painted on the front of them. Ivan's no longer carrys them but in my search for your picture I leared that Ivan's still makes the Slammer.

Ya I see Ivans makes the slammer and I do have them. I would guess I have some Crushers too. Thorn Brothers has the slammers and I got the picture off there web paje. Those slammers are real close to a bunch of other stuff I have too. Last year on end of season clearance I must have bought 30 different spoons. Ill never use them all. grin.gif

My favorite jigging spoon are JR's Crushers. I like them because they have a great fluttering action as they drop. Once side of the spoon is gold and then the other side has the colors. My favorite colors are Pink/White, Red Glow, Perch, and Green/Yellow Chart. A guide at Arnesens
by the name of Toby started me using this about 7 years ago and I have been using them ever since. One thing that I really notice is 1 minneow head or 2. Fish seem really reluctant to bite when there is only a single head. I have had that happen were I lost a head and kept jigging cause a fish was on the Vex and it wouldn't bite. Reel up put on another head and drop it to the bottom and Wham fish one. I suppose it gives it more action. Like MJ5 said I like to snap them off right behind their gill cover so you have that little extra shake and flutter. I also alway snap the airsac in the minneow body and drop it down the hole. I have cleaned several walleyes from up there that have had just bodies and no head. They have crusher in like 3 sizes but I aways use 3/8 and 1/4. The majority of the time I used the 3/8 but sometimes they won't go on that size but then throw the same color in a 1/4 size down and they are all over it. I also like JR's slammer spoons they faster dropping lure but they aren't my favorite. I used crushers probably 97% of the time I am on the lake. I have some Angel Eyes and Glow Devils on the way I have to see how they measure up to the crusher.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes

[This message has been edited by iffwalleyes (edited 11-19-2003).]

So many Lures - So little time.........................
That's why I have not really got into the AE's. I bought sooo much tackle (that works good) b4 they came out that I have not had time to try it all grin.gif.
[This message has been edited by Dr. Bob (edited 11-18-2003).]

I agree with Dr. Bob I have so maney other lures I have yet to use angel eyes or glow devils, but that will change because I have some on the way. I will let you know once I get some as to how they compare. I have always had good luck with the JR crushers so I have around 40 of them little things. The best place that I have found that sells them is directly from the dealer. JR's has a webpage but it really doesn't show that much and it doesn't have the crushers on it at all. If you need a number contact me and I will get you it.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes
[email protected]

I am sure you can find all of the AE's you want right here. Just go to the top of the page and click on fishing equipment. They are listed under Scenic Tackle.
Stick a BIG ONE EY grin.gif.

I know JB Lures Makes angel eyes. They sell them in single packs though. And some are not the same color as the ones on cards shown on FM. But trust me its way cheaper to buy them off here than it is in stores.
The stores that I have seen them forsale have only been Scheels, JB lures in Winthrop and in some local bait shops. I have seen them retailed for about $3.50 for a single spoon. Thats expensive compared to about a little over $2 here.
------------------
Fish ON!

JHansel - They are sold under the JB Lures name and packaging, but still say Angle Eye on them.
You can also order them from this site and save some $$ while supporting a sponsor. They come in a few days.
------------------
Love them 'Pout!
[Note from Rick: You can find them by CLICKING HERE for Angel Eyes and Glow Devils.
SAVE BIG $$$ HERE]
[This message has been edited by Poutmaster (edited 11-23-2003).]
[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 11-23-2003).]

Yes, the St.Cloud Gander Mtn. has JB Lures Angel Eyes, but they do not have the AE JR. Apparently nobody carrys Scenic Tackle
Jordan

JHensel,
Two things. There are a ton of store owners out there that carry Scenic Tackle. The Angel Eyes you are seeing in Gander in the JB packages are the Jrs. They have a limited color selection in the single packages.
Jeff
[email protected]

How about vertical jigging rapalas? A guy at Gander said he absolutely smokes em' on that too...seems to me like they bite on anything that moves!! wink.gif At least thats what it seems like when we get up there!
JHansel

At times I have clobbered them on the raps. I always give them a whirl. Some times they work great, sometimes they don't. The perch pattern is my favorite.

True True, jigging raps w/minnow heads work good, but also who can resist watch'n a bobber go slow down the hole, stop half way, then move under the ice, then you set hook.
Awesome Awesome Awesome
------------------
Keep'n it low in the ho..

Since the Vikings are never in it. We use it for an excuse to make some fun stuff! Last year was a bit light. Hot cheese bean dip, hot wings and pepperoni cheese bread! 😋

That snow and the 15-25 mph winds on Thursday with higher gusts will be nasty drifting. I didn't go to LOW (can I say that in the this thread?🤫) this week because of it.

On the South Shore... Ice fishing is strong across the south shore of Lake of the Woods out on Big Traverse Bay. Most anglers are targeting deep mud with others fishing structure if available where they are going out of. There are fish in both areas. Some ice roads are now extending more than 16 miles out, with over two feet of ice reported in most areas. Resorts and outfitters continue increasing weight limits. As a rule, fishing continues to be very good with consistent action for anglers. Most fishing activity is taking place in 26-32 feet of water. Anglers are finding a healthy mix of walleyes and saugers, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy fresh fish frys and bring fish home. On the jigging line, jigging spoons with rattles tipped with a minnow head have been consistent. Lipless crankbaits and jigging rap style lures also doing well. On the deadstick, a plain hook or a small jig with a live minnow 6 inches to a foot off of the bottom. You never know when the fish will move through. Anglers fishing the entire day normally have success. Electronics are a big help as well. On the Rainy River... The morning and evening hours are the best for fishing walleyes. A jig and minnow combination has been a good presentation. A jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head is also producing some fish. Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is still producing some big fish through the ice. There are two sturgeon seasons on Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River, a catch and release season and a harvest season in which you can keep one fish per calendar year. The harvest season runs from April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – Sept. 30. The catch and release season runs May 8th – May 15th and Oct. 1 – April 23rd. Although ice conditions on the river are good, they can vary significantly due to the current, so anglers should always consult local resorts or outfitters for the most up-to-date safety information and fishing advice. Up at the NW Angle... Ice fishing remains good at the Northwest Angle. Resorts continue to move their fish houses staying on fish. Some fish houses are set up on structure while others are targeting deeper mud flats. Anglers are catching a nice mix of walleyes, saugers, jumbo perch, pike, and tullibees. Good numbers of big crappies are still being caught in select areas and hard sided fish houses are available to target them. Check with a NW Angle resort for info. Jigging one line, deadsticking the second is effective. Some days the jigging line is hot, other days the deadstick. Some good colors have been gold, glow red, glow white, wonder bread, pink, chartreuse and orange. Lake of the Woods enjoys an extended ice fishing season with fish houses on the ice through March 31st and walleye and sauger seasons open through April 14th. Perch, crappie, and pike seasons remain open year-round.

Same story, different day (Monday). Caught several small walleyes (biggest were 14 and 15 inches) with the best bite from 2-5pm. Caught my record walleye this winter at 6½ (inches, not pounds). Was wondering why the bobber kept going down a couple inches for several minutes until I finally reeled it up. Fortunately it was just hooked in the lips. Having a lively minnow definitely improved the action. I put down a pike sucker for the first time this winter and got an immediate hard bite. When I went to set the hook, the line broke just above the hook. Don't know if it was a northern bite-off or just weak line by the hook. May try some pike suckers next trip. Ice conditions were very good except for heavy drifting (even with very little fresh snow). Didn't see any vehicles traveling off road except for snowmobiles and a tracked SxS, although there weren't many people out on the lake. Water came up around my house about 1½ inches but froze very quickly with the cold weather and no snow on top. Will probably have to block it up again next time up. Good luck fishing and be careful of severe drifting of snow, especially with the 3-5 inches they are predicting for Wednesday night.
