Way to go guys!
You might want to consider holding the events anyways, even if you dont get too much interest from the get-go.

When we started the Statewide, at the first event there were only 2 boats. Scott Steil and I. But each event got more and more people there. Once people see what its all about, they are hooked!!

EVERY event you hold, make it FUN and let folks know. We're on our 4th year and we still do not have a full league...so don't despair. Even if you only have 5 boats at an event, it's still fun.

You do need to keep the rules the exact same as the other 2 leagues as well as the dues and individual tourney fees. If you run 6 events, that comes out to $50 per team per event.

Can't wait to see LETS #3 take off!!

OK Southern MN...
The LETS League is for fun and learning.
It's multi-species, so most everyone will have a fish they have skills on. If not join with someone who does.

Who would like to be in the 1st Southern LETS League?

You can see the LETS website at:
http://fishingsavvy.com
for more info.

I`m always looking for another tourny to fish. My dad would more than likely be in as long the dates don`t conflict with our existing schedual. Sunday`s will work better for us. The sooner the lakes are picked the sooner we can commit to this. I`ll keep watching and good luck guy`s. Flip

I would get the lakes and dates picked ASAP.

Lucky and Dave,
You'll probably need to excecute executive privilage and decide between the two of you soon what these will be. Try to keep them on lakes that have good access and adequate parking as well as lakes that are good multi-species lakes. We also use 900 acres as a rule of thumb, although smaller lakes are ok too depending on the circumstances.

Lucky,
Count me in, I do get extremely busy over the summer, but I had to give up my other fishing club and I want to get back to some friendly competetive fishing.
If I can be of some help let me know.
Dates and times the earlier the better.
Where are you going to centralize the tourney's from?
Are we going to cover the whole southern part of the state?
Winona to Ortonville, Lakeville to Albert Lea?
Do both partners in the boat have to be members of FM?

Happy hookin!!!! grin.gif

HARDWATER,
If you live in NC MN, you might want to join the Statewide LETS.
We'll be mainly in the Bemidji area this year with one in the Alex area. Might work better for you.

Lets try weekend right before full moons or new moons. Lets make it as easy and as fun as we can.
Oh yea count me in.
I'll see about getting some of my fishing partners intrested.

Good on ya all!
Thanks Lucky and Dave for getting this off the ground. Its a lot of fun and every one will have a blast.

For picking your lakes ,I suggest every one throw out thier favorites in the area and pick from them.Try to get Daves secret honey hole on the calendar and I will make that one! grin.gif
Same with the dates.
If you have a team or two that can't make every event you can set up the league where you can throw out an event that does not count toward year end totals.
It wouldn't matter any way.I think every one will find out its more about the fun.
Congratualtions to the South Central LETS League!

There is no limit on lake size either. The Statewide just found it more useful to use 900 acre or bigger lakes.

We in the Southern part of the state know that would eliminate much or most of our best fishing waters.

Lucky and Catch-N, you should get together as soon as possible to pick lakes and dates. Tomorrow would not be too soon smile.gif

Dan, can you get a sign-up started for the 1st Southern MN LETS league?

Posted

I can create a sign-up sheet in pdf format. Lucky, can you send the name and address of where you want the checks to go when you get that figured out? Also, who you want the checks made out to. I will include that on the application. For Metro, we set-up an account and have the checks go to "Metro LETS".

Well thanks to all for the response. Dave and I will meet on Wed and hash out everything and come up with the lake list and event dates. I'll post the the list both on this forum and the LETS and FM forum.

Dan thanks for getting the signup sheet going. That should help organize this a bit.
Things are happening fast and we're getting some great response!
We are going to have a great time this I know for a fact! smile.gif

Well since this is where it all started I would like to bring this post back to the forefront. People we are going to need some more teams! There was alot of interest here to start off with and then nothing. If you have some ideas on how this league would better suit you. Please either post here or email me [email protected]. I'm here to answer your questions and take any suggestions you might have. I'd love to see this league get off the ground but if it's not for you or you thought it would be something else let me know.
Thanks Lucky

Running on empty at dark on a sled is definitely stress-inducing. Been there, done that. Glad that you made it out.

Eagle swoops are always a hoot to watch.   The snow is mostly gone on the lake. Ice melt made things pretty wet but the ice is obviously still very thick.

On the South Shore...  The big question:  "How is the ice up at Lake of the Woods?"  That is for each individual resort or outfitter who operates an ice road or trail to answer, but overall, ice conditions are still very good and ice fishing is going strong!  As always, stay on the marked ice  roads and trails for safety.     Being up on the Canadian border, the colder temps Lake of the Woods enjoys vs much of the region combined with three feet of ice makes a big difference.  Fish houses are allowed unattended overnight through March 31st and it sounds like a good number of resorts will be fishing through the month, but ultimately, Mother Nature will determine that.     Regarding the fishing, overall, very good reports for walleyes, saugers and perch.  There is a strong population of smaller walleyes and saugers in the lake which bodes well for the future, but in the meantime, anglers are sorting through them to catch their keepers.   The one-two punch of jigging and deadsticking remains the most effective technique. Jigging spoons with rattles tipped with a minnow head or a lipless crankbait on the jigging line is the ticket.  On the deadstick, a live minnow a foot off the bottom on a plain red hook or medium sized ice fishing jig is catching a lot of fish.   Using electronics is super helpful.  Many nice walleyes are swimming through suspended, keep an eye out.   Anglers tip-up fishing for pike have had a great week and it should continue to get even better.  Suckers, frozen alewife and smelt are working well. Putting baits 1 foot under the ice or right off bottom seems to be effective this week.  Most common depths, 9 - 15 feet. On the Rainy River...  The Rain River is still frozen with no signs of open water yet.  Every year can be different, but on average, the Rainy River will start opening up around the third week of March.  The first boat ramp suitable for larger boats is Nelson Park in Birchdale.  We will keep you posted.    As of March 1st, walleyes and saugers are catch and release only on Four Mile Bay and the Rainy River.     Make plans now for sturgeon season.  Once the open water appears, the fish are super active.  Here are the seasons...   -Catch and Release Season: May 8th – May 15th and October 1 – April 23rd. -Harvest Season: April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – September 30. -Closed Season: May 16th – June 30th.  Up at the Northwest Angle...  Fishing remains very good up at the Angle and the ice is in good shape as well.  As on the south end, resorts monitor ice roads and trails daily and there are still some great ice fishing opportunities available.     Walleyes, saugers, perch, and pike are showing up in good numbers.  Those targeting crappies are reporting good numbers of fish.  Work through a NW Angle resort for ice fishing opportunities on this part of the lake. The walleye and sauger season is open through April 14th. Pike fishing never closes, and perch and crappie remain open year-round as well. Whether booking a day house rental, sleeper fish house, or resort stay, there is still plenty of time to plan a late-season ice fishing adventure.

Looks like a shallow lake with some potential.  Keepable crappies, decent bluegills and some nice perch according to the last survey (2015). Susan Lake   With a max depth of 10 feet, I’d want to know a little more about it before I’d start drilling holes.  Could be a nice little adventure though.

Jeff and I fished Saturday and half day Sunday, targeting whitefish, ciscos, crappies, and perch.  The bite was tough for us.  We ecked out a few, but nothing special.  Highlight of the weekend was the sled ride into Wolf Lake and having an eagle swoop in and eat a rock bass we had on the ice.  All in all, not a bad way to waste time.
