Any suggestions on lures? How do I find the "humps" how deep of water?

Cowgirls and Dawgs.

Use your electronics. wink

There are Ciscoes in Sugar, Muskies love ciscoes.

That should help with colors.

Anyone have an ice report for Sugar? Seen anyone fishing?

Posted

I Was thinking about heading up that direction today and checking it out,if I do i will let ya know what I find

Posted

Thanks, I'll be fishing somewhere tomorrow afternoon/evening. I'll probably be heading to that area as well.

There is wheeler traffic on the south bay out from the access guys went clear across the bay.I dont feel like draggin my house to the spot i fish so cant tell u how much ice there is,but they are out there.didnt check the north end.Whoops ,sorry it was the north bay access they were out of i didnt go by the south bay access.

Posted

Thanks for the report. I probably won't walk too far unless the snow melts before I get there tomorrow.

Posted

I would be careful on the south end, one chop with a chisel would go through two days ago.

Posted

Thanks for that. The wind didn't do us any favors making ice during that cold stretch. I haven't spent any time in the north bay and I don't plan on it. Perhaps I'll fish a different lake until the main lake makes more ice.

Yeah no problem.I woulda tried it but didnt figure id enjoy the drag.I did ok last yr in the north bay the few times i fished it,infact that was the first times ive ever ice fished Sugar.I will probly check the south end tomorrow,i was running short on time to get out somewhere before the early evening bite.

laugh NICE FISH problem now is you"ll have lots of company shocked
Posted

Ehh,everyone will have company then since no one knows me.

Nice catch expl. The lake is large enough to handle the pressure and many good spots all around the lake. Any word on the main lake ice thickness?

I wouldn't worry about the company. I have fished this lake a lot over the years and it is a tough one. I don't know the guy but expl either got lucky or more likely really knows what he is doing and has spent a lot of time getting a pattern to dial them in. No structure less bowl lake here, and nothing caught in the daylight, that should weed out a lot of the "hot bite" chasers.

Couldn't agree more Cowboy. Perfect lake to send chasers though if your in the area on a hot bite

Good luck crowd laugh

I will say when fishing in the open water season it pays big to pay attention to whats beneath you.A decent graph and a gps can do alot of good when you happen upon something unusual while fishing or just cruising around in the boat.I often find myself fishing in areas well into January on Metro lakes that look like swiss cheese all around any structure there is,while Im drilling holes on fresh ice and catching fish.A one or two foot depression in a bowl or a 20ft×20ft 1foot rise two or three hundred yards away from a pressured structure can be amazing. These are things you dont find drilling holes in the ice unless your one lucky s.o.b.Lakemap chips are all good but theres ALOT of things they dont show or they missed,no way they can be perfect. As far as the main lake ice I have no idea.As of now I have no need to leave the bay,but when I do I will post as I found some interesting looking spots out there this summer I am going to look into further.Good luck guys!

I'm working in the area and was thinking about giving sugar a go, I haven't fished the lake and was seeing if I could get any pointers or which way I should head to. Ill be going there after work so any advice would be great.feel free to message me, thanks

I like the main lake structure for eyes, but haven't made it out there yet. I walk out, or drive truck out, and its a long walk. Any reports on the ice in the main lake?

Went out of the south launch last Saturday morning. Started shallow and worked out to deeper water as the sun came up. Didn't mark any fish in shallow water. Marked some in 40' but no bites. By that time it was 10:30-11am. Ice was 8-9 inches and lots of water on top as the top layers continued melting.

Anybody been driving ATVs out there? How's the ice look out there after all the re-freeze? Are there any areas to avoid on a four Wheeler? Looking to head out mid week for some exploring, but don't want to walk or swim from spot to spot. Thanks for any info!

Drove by last night and there was a blazer pulling out an ice castle. Saw wheelers all over out there

Sound like the guy with the blazer is darwin award candidate...

Posted

Yea that's for sure since I was on a lake nearby and had only 10 inches

Saw some small cars driving around today.

Not very much action. I tried deep, shallow, weeds, humps, wasn't much of anything these past couple of days.

Any spots that I should avoid driving my truck on? Heading out around 2 230

Posted

just drive around, let us know how that goes. grin
