I'm all about Ice Fishing TV shows, but seriously...

Wow, a lot of responses! Good to see I'm not alone at least!

I think I might have to dig around online to see if there are any TV episodes. Otherwise I'll hit up Scheels tonight and pick up a DVD. I need SOMETHING to curb my excitement. This sub-zero weather is killing me!

I'm with you on this too. Vexilar this, Vexilar that, oh sure blah blah. The show does do about the best job of showing you how to use a flasher properly but when they start knocking the competition it gets very old quick. I haate it when they call them "vexilar knock offs". I always DVR and watch the infisherman ice guide and midwest outdoors. I DVR icefishing today but I rarely watch it.

not only that, but does anyone notice the low quality of the videography? Maybe its just my tv, but it always looks like they are shooting it later in the afternoon when its starting to get dark out, with no lights and he's also blurry alot when he's pimping his flasher.

I go back and watch last season's episodes of In-Fishermans Ice Guide. I have all but one or two on the DVR. Are there new shows on for the Ice Guide this year? and are they still using the Showdown? Those are the best shows with the most fishing being done. I also like the Lindner's and I like the Spritual message at the end. I own a Showdown and an HT flip-over sled.

Im a big Vexilar fan, just bought the FL-22 but those shows have little to no good info in them. Id rate them a D- The host is really annoying. I just started watching them on the net, 3 episodes was enough.

hopefully some fishing TV shows read this stuff. Here's my complaints

1. no one believes your product is that great if you can catch fish on a guided trip to the middle of nowhere Canada. Used gum and a paperclip could catch a limit in some of those places. Fish where people actually fish!

2. Show more than just people reeling in fish after fish. I want to see how they were jigging, watch it on the vex and camera, etc. I want to see the PROCESS, not the result.

3. Show lake maps, where they are fishing, and tell why that location.

I see this type of over the top product pushing behavior everywhere. People can't talk tactics, they talk brands - like if you don't use theirs, your out of luck. Selling with fear or something. While I am in marketing as a profession, I personally find watching or reading about fishing and hunting packed with so much promotion just makes me ill.

I have started thinking about starting a publication without name brands in storyline, rather on pages between the stories. Hey, now that's an idea.

dont watch ice fishing today. all infomercial. i couln't believe it made it past the first season. outdoor shows need commercials to survive. for me putting that aside i want a feel as if i were there. to me butch furtman is no. 1. i'm not for all the yelling but i respect gillespi and his show for they fish in all conditions and last week show with the snow storm and 40 mile an hour winds and barely making it back to shore. sure they have guides, but they are likeable guys, and not afraid to show what they do. linders are decent people with a fine show. jason mitchel does a fine program himself. in-fisherman ice show is another i tape, but i'm not saying it's phony but catching nothing but big fish one after another is something i have never seen but one time in my life for one species. good luck.

Yes, the shows need the commercials or there will be no sponsors and then no show.

There is a fine line for the adverstising and some go well past that line.

I watch a few of them but not many.

I do enjoy the Jason Mitchell for one and Douge Stange on In Fish is also pretty informative. Doug in my mind may the best out there for information to the fisherman.

I sure do miss Tony Dean!- Jason Mitchell is doing a good job but that smooth voice of Tony was nice to listen to every Sunday. Kent's show was realistic to a point too! If the fish were not going good he didn't B.S. his way through it either, he said that's just fishin for ya.

Ya Jason is doing a ok job but Tony Dean and that voice were awesome. He had a way of relaxing you while you watched his show even if they were just talking about Mushrooms again.
