Kotc gathering

Recommended Posts

We did teams the first year of the KOTC and while it was fun, there were some issues with that format that led to the change. I would participate in another team venture, but as far as the KOTC goes, the format will not be changing.

I know the KOTC isn’t nearly as “fun” as the Walleye tour, but I think a lot of us have had a pretty good time with it. Even those of us struggling to compete whistle

I personally think the KOTC is alot of fun with the individual format. I didnt like getting grouped up with guys who werent even fishing, much less checking in weekly. Now if we could pick our own teams...that would be worth entertaining!

If the team format was put into place maybe it would have be a draft much like fantasy football. Who would be number one overall????? grin

My guess would be the guys with the riverpro's would be very close to the top!

So the last few posts have me thinking we need to have a Gathering again. And if I show up, someone better bring me a turtle, eh?

So... when is it?

If you show up I will give you a ride to the sandbar for throwing that turtle in your boat the first year.

OK, I do not think Hanson is even in the KOTC this year, Slowhand has to be doing well (at least in the flats), so the only one left is me grin

I am just picky about when I turn in wink Figure I would save ya the extra work wink

No, my "But?????" was pointing at how the individual format is the best, but the team format did give more drive to get out as to not let others down. But their seems to be a fair share of people changing points left and right, which means the action is nice.

Now 'compete'? I thought the KOTC was just for fun grin

Speaking of fun, a GT would be fun.

Ya, your right Shack. No KOTC this year for me. Honestly, not much catfishing for me either, although the couple times I've been out have been pretty productive. Good bang for the buck opportunities.

Actually getting out on P4 Sunday night with a certain guide. grin I really don't care if we catch fish either, Brian and I have some catching up to do.

I should be back in the swing of things next summer. Economy should be better, way more confidant in my job stability, and I've got most of the work done on my house that I wanted to get done. You should see my garden! wink Boat will be running or replaced as well. We'll be good to go!

Ice fishing this winter may have to take a back seat again though. We'll see, I think the sleeper shack on URL is calling my name.

Now if my stock purchase takes off like it should, look out baby! grin Doubled already and up 25% in the last 2-3 days.

For those of you that plan on attending, I was thinking maybe you should bring along some $ and we can get a little game of Sandbar Hold’em going.

And no, not the version where you all try to grab dtro and “hold’em” before he tips over in his chair whistle

There hasn't beet an overwhelming response to my email, so for those of you (bassboy) not in the KOTC that want some details, shoot me an email.

The tables would be a welcome addition so I don't have to go out and buy a couple.

I will tote along my grill so anyone that wants to throw some grub on there can.

Maybe you can bring some competition, I get tired of beating those guys all the time.

I even went as far as volunteering to take the outside track on the board since it's a longer distance.

Do not forget Grants offer!

I will not be able to attend this frown My August has been booked solid for the last month.

If'in you guys need an extra table and some chairs, elwood sure can swing over and pick some up. The table has been at 3 or 4 FM GT's so far and survived. I am positive it was used at the 2007 KOTC GT. It is light and folds out to aprox. 3.5'x7'. Give me a call elwood. I will be home tonight and Saturday morning.

I might have a couple things you guys might be able to have a drawing for also laugh or winner of hold'em?

Have fun and KOTC-GT with your rods out!

I’ve confirmed that there is a mean SOB of a flathead within casting distance of our spot. Maybe one of us will be able to teach it a lesson tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer Shack, too bad you can't make it down.

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.

I found this dock wheel floating in Black Bay. If it's yours or you know whom it belongs to, go and grab it.
