Being I had a couple free hours till my fishing partner gets off work, I headed to the river for a bit. Brought my cat rod and a dozen sucker minnows that I had in the freezer.  The first spot I tried was a small hole with a bunch of down wood. I have this spot 20 min with nothing to show. Second spot was a current break on a shallow flat off the main channel. This spot has produced well for me in past times of high water, today was no exception:)  Within 2hrs I was out of bait, cut most of my minnows in 2-3 pieces.  I figured it was taking longer to fight the fish, re bait and re cast than it was to actually get a bite:)   Going back for round two tonight with Andrea;)

Would love to say we killed them, but can't lie.  It was a little different this evening, fishing was much slower than it had been earlier in the day.  Fish were caught , just none by me:)...lol. I figure if Andrea hadn't come with this evenig it would have been skunk city.  As luck would have it, or I should say Andrea's luck got us a few:)  Even though fishing was slower than I would have liked, seeing her fight a nice sized cat was reward enough... I was happy to see my beautiful girlfriend smile:)

The kids and I got down to the river this weekend and found northern, walleye, and some bass. green 1/4 oz jigs with white 3 inch grubs worked for me on the uni side of the dam.

I fished the Minnesota adult teen challenge fishing contest this past weekend. Didn't do well but I did get to meet Al Linder and Walleye Dan  and had a great time raising money for a great cause over 250,000$ was raised for Minnesota teen challenge

Went to a small lake near st. Cloud today. And even with this heat, the fish were still pretty aggressive!  This guy was the biggest of the few I caught. Screenshot_2015-06-09-15-27-56.thumb.png

Had modest catch of random crappies yesterday.  Oddly, a few big post spawn females in very shallow water????  Gonna try to catch a few eyes this weekend.  Any general information?  Depth or structure to look for???  I have the lake in mind, so no hotspots needed!

Hit a small area lake today. Starting to find a few of the post spawn bulls roaming the deep weed edge with all the females and small gills.  Water temp was 76 on this lake, weed beds are starting to get thick in places. Finding fish was as easy as finding a thick weed edge close to a deep break.  Used small curly tailed grubs as a search bait to pin down just the right spot once we found the area we were going to hit.  Once fish were located, we switched over to panfish leeches on  1/32 oz jigs under a float. I find at this time of year nothing tempts big gills like a tiny leech ;)Also got a few crappies mixxed in with the gills.

Nice job Rick. We t out to a local lake and took the niece's out fishing and they had a blast. They caught nothing big but had a blast and begged all the way home to go again soon.

Went to try out Beaver Lake and it treated us nicely. Went with the wife and pops past Saturday. Pops got that the bass which was right around 22in and 6lbs. and the wife had both northern. First was around 26in and second was about 24in. Sadly for myself nothing but handful of sunfish...still a good trip.
