Fished Horseshoe last night, a couple other HSO members out there. Fishing was slower than I thought it would be. A few crappies, cats, small eye and one larger eye. smile

Posted

my brother and I are planning on heading out there the weekend of the 8th of February we were thinking of making it an all day trip would you think that fishing out there all day would be productive or is there any other lakes in the area that may be good to fish in the morning

Posted

I've had luck all times of the day and night out there. The great thing there is, if you get bored in one spot, just move. The lake is plenty big enough and has a couple other lakes really close by, also.

On my way fishing a snowmobiler was stuck in the ditch.Pulled him out with my brand new tow stap.Hit the lake and didn't take long for the crappies to start biting.Only had some broken plastics in the bottom of the sled to use.Lost my pouch of assorted plastics so had to just use what was around.Set on my same spot on this lake in 33' fow.Fish were swimming all over it seemed.Surprisingly I did ok tonight even with broken in half triggers and some crappie nuggets that I havnt used this yr.Got some gills too towards the end.Lake of choice was Watab/Rossier.full-45395-41934-imag0609_1.jpg

Hit one of the lakes within 20 miles South of town today that I haven't been to since last yr.

With the cold front that came through we decided panfish would be our best choice.

Started our search along a nice green weedline, drilled quite a few holes between 10-25ft. Had some good activity on the vexilar in the deeper holes, I thought Bingo wink found 'em with out much trouble. Well, this nice big school we were marking ended up being perch, and tiny ones at that frown

Our next two locations yielded similar results.

By 3 PM we were at our fourth or fifth spot, but this one was different, it held crappies and gills smile Found a mix of fish in the 12-18ft depths along a steep sand bar. Even managed a few nicer fish smile biggest was just over 9in. Kept a half dozen 7-8inch sunfish for the frying pan, let the rest go to grow. full-26589-41935-003.jpg

Lindy bug in the coachdawg color, Impulse mayfly, was the winner for the bigger gills today smile

Nice report Jeremy, nice pictures too. And Rick, is coachdog a color too?

Took my neighbor out to the lake I was on Friday hoping to get him a meal of sunnies. If they were finiky Friday I don't know what to call how they were today. Feeling a bite tightlining was all but impossible. I managed to put twelve in the bucket for him while he contributed one. Very tough bite and the wind was incredible. A normal 1/2 hr ride home became an hr wind and blowing snow was quite a sight to see!

Posted

Ps. Seen two other trucks on the ice, both of which had shovels out at one point getting unstuck. A little slush starting to form on top of the ice too.

Posted

You guys caught dinner tonight!

Headed out to Watab Rossier again.Genofish met up with me about an hour after. The best bite was in that first hr slot before Geno came lol. wink Only pulled up a handful of crappies and a couple of gills.Size was very small but Geno caught an 8" so he got the big one of the night lol. the begining they liked this sparkley purple plastic, don't know the name of it but they just stopped completely. We tried everything but they just nibbled and wernt latching on_Missed quite a few with a few words to say along with it.After you left Geno a couple more small crappies came out.I stayed for another hr after you left . smile

Posted

Jeremy, it was a short outing, but a good time, even though I chased away the bite mad I was able to get a few negative fish with plastics but

even with the limited fish & slow bite it was good to fish a new spot : smile

Posted

Lol ,You didn't miss anything.Just little annoying fishes. We got to hit up some more local waters sometime..

Got out this weekend before the cold and wind hit. Did pretty good on the action, caught few eyes, few crappies and some perch. Also caught my first catfish through the ice. Thought it was a massive walleye but ended up being this 24" cat. It still was a fun fight. Im usually a catch and release guy but took few home for the pan. Looking forward to getting out again this weekend.

Those flooding problems are a sign of your needle and seat are leaking.  If the needle has a ring around the tip you can clean it if it's brass. If it has a black rubber tip then it needs to be replaced. You can clean the needle and seat with things like rubbing compound or even toothpaste I use a product called Semi chrome. It for polishing die pins. Just clean them up after polishing.

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.
    • SkunkedAgain
Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

👍 when/if i get drawn.....which i should know about june 1 we'll get in touch........both my kid and myself should get drawn.   and thanks.........with 6 preference points............i think are odds are pretty good.............there giving out 375 permits......and since we had yogi and booboo destroy my birdfeeders last spring......🙄

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?

but if he really wants I can change the date..
