Looks like the weather will shape up for Saturday and Sunday...then back to cold and wet.

I'll be out one of those nights.

Check out the 5 day forcast.... its stating 80% rain all day through 2100 hours then it drops to 50% With winds coming from the east till evening then shifting to coming out of the north at up to 20MPH.

I scratched my trip.

This would make for a tough first time trip..... I really hope you put him on some fish.

Good luck

If i don't hit a deadhead tonight it'll be a good trip!

Since my brother is getting married in less than a month, I doubt he'll be back to fish the river this year anyway!! Lol. So Maybe i'll give him a crappy, rainy, memorable evening grin.

So I was out from 1900 - 0000 and my buddy that I was fishing with had the only run well tug tug tug drop. The rain / cold really seems to have slowed them down a bunch, and that sucks as they weren't biting all that well before the cold front rolled in. Surprisingly there was a lot of boats out of the 35w launch also mixed with barge traffic. I was sitting at the launch when a couple of guys rolled up asked the how they did and the guy replies "really didn't do much fishing more out for a ride." Ya ok at like 2230 in the rain lol. Needless to say it was cold wet and zero fish to show for it, but I was out on the water living the good life.

Slow night out on the MN River. Little bit chilly but really wasn't too bad with a small fire and layers of clothing.

Hey new to the forum!

Caught my first Flatty by mistake in 96. A few miles up from the Miss on the MN. Tossed in a hook with 3 nightcrawlers and i turned my back for only for a secound to sit down and slam goes the rod. the bait store over by Hiawatha put the picture in the local fishing mag.. I believe it said new Olympic event catfish curling it was around the olympics. The cat was around 42lbs it was a guess. i fished the Mn for a few years cathing fish between 10-30lbs, lost a few that still bug me to this day. So years later back at it. Went out on the MN for Mothers day south of Granite Falls No bites except for small fish messing with the bait. Boy! Do i miss the beauty of the MN River. Anyhow look foward to this site and all the tips I can get.

I agree, I got a 7000ic3 and love it so far, lot better than the 6500 for big cats if you ask me.

Saturday, on the river at 8am, 26x17 channel in the boat at 9:30am. Came out of 30 fow on cut sucker. Focused on flats towards sunset with no success. Quit at 11pm without another bite.

So far i've been skunked only 4 times, but never more than 1 at a time.

And must have lost my KOTC logo on Mille Lacs last weekend!

Most Penn reels are very repairable and will last a lifetime. Pretty hard to wreck them but parts do wear out.

I rarely fish KOTC up on Mille Lacs, but now and then I try for flatheads on the mud flats.

No pics, but the flatties were chomping this morning around 4 a.m. They were pioneering areas outside of the river channel...

The graph at the NOAA Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service for Henderson shows a crest one foot above flood stage for next Thursday. From today's date that is an increase of about a little under a foot a day. High water and an oncoming spawn might shut things down (sorry if that's class half empty).

Wouldnt you know it, this is my last weekend of sports 6 days a week, and now the water is way out of its banks. Although, I wont let a little thing like high water keep me from fishing

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
