Anyone getting out there lately? I was thinking about doing some carp fishing one more time if I can. Should be a nice weekend.

Posted

I went out tonight and managed to pull in 6 eaters and 1 nice walleye around 4lbs. Small period of time where they were just hammering my bait. Water is still dirty, seems to be slowly going down, but lots of water is still dumping into the river. All the eyes were C&R'ed

Couple more eaters tonight. Saw a nice 19" sauger pulled in...

Are any of you walleye guys getting into carp still? I'm getting out this weekend and would like to use up my worm supply on some hawgs.

You're a carp guy, heh? If you ever want to catch some ocean tuna sized carp, I know of a spot on Minnetonka where they cruise right after ice out......

Anyone had a chance to get any ice fishing in on the river? I was a little concerned this fall with the high stage and high flows, but if things settled down and we had another cold spell, I would be interested in going out. Water clarity can be pretty darn good and those deep holes can hold some nice eyes and channels.

Fishing has been slow

The catfish was biting pretty good over the weekend on suckers.

Midcoast...you were obviously fishing from shore? Not boat? just wondering where, not exactly, but what area of the river?

Posted

Darren and John. how was the bite today? wink

Don't know what you are talking about laugh

We did put on some miles upstream and downstream of Jordan.

Found 2 hungry shovelnose, that was it.

How the Belle Plain landing looking? Im guessing the Jordan landing is in good shape?

Le Sueur, St. peter, and Henderson are no good so no landing there. Le Sueur and St. Peter are packed with sand.

Just took a ride down to the Jordan launch.

1st off, the road is still closed.

2nd, from here on out, it's going to be a krapshoot if you can launch from day to day. Right now, there is about 4-5" of mud/silt, and will only get worse everyday. It's going to be another one of those years, where we are begging for the powers that be to clear the launches out for us. frown

At the Henderson landing, the parking lot is still under water, and you still wouldnt be able to get under the 19 bridge if you were able to land the boat.

On the positive side of things, Hwy 93 to the south of town was opened back up on Friday, County rd 6 to the north was opened on last Thursday, and Hwy 19 to the east should reopen soon, MNDOT is working on the repairs now, and when they are done, they should open the road, depending on the rain forecast, and river predictions.

Hmmmmmm..... Snow plow or Bob Cat??? Wouldn't be the first time, we've had to dig out the elements to gain some access.

I really wish we had a 3000 Gallon water truck... Wait the fire dept. does.. Kidding.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it. We have some dewatering trash pumps. I'll have to see what kind of discharge power they have. That might make for an interesting afternoon to rinse of the launches.

I might need some help if anyone is up for it?

I went and checked out the landings in St. Peter and Le Sueur yesterday. Not looking good I was standing were the landing is except on about +12' of sand!

Any one know how it is looking in Mankato as far a landing a boat??

You’re asking a guy that was out in a boat with a generator and an electric chainsaw trying to make a path through some trees. laugh

Spraying water sounds like fun grin

Sounds like the makings for a giant squirtgun fight to me.

Anyone know of any usable launches? I want to get out thursday.

Not Yet........... frown

Even though water temps are getting into the 50's, the water is still rushing very fast, and is very dirty. I plan on taking the canoe out maybe Thursday afternoon to give it a try.

You can get in at Jordan. But you might need a pair of rubber boots, but it's launchable for sure at least for now.

Posted

I was guessing jordan would be usable. It is usually one of the better ones. I was planning on heading out with riverrat56 and was hoping that something between st peter and henderson would be in decent shape.

No go anywere form St. Peter to Henderson. I was hoping by the end of the week it would be low enough to get them to start cleaning up the landing in Le Sueur, was gonna start bugging them tommorow, but if it keeps raining like it was a while ago it aint gonna happen.

nah

leave Nick at home and take me instead. grin It's closer anyways

I'm guessing Mankato will be a no go for a while. Last time I was down there the whole Land of Memories park was under at least a few feet of water and I'm assuming that park took some serious damage from the flooding.

Seven Mile Creek launch is probably going to be down for a long time as well.

ill see what i can do at the jordan launch. I could probably borrow a skid. but.... dont know how far id go down into the water... could probably clear some of the mud away so vehicles get some traction..

My 30 year-old Indy 500 (over 8,000 miles) has been having a mid-range bog for many years now.  It is worse on warm days and when the engine is warmer.  The sled runs fine up to about 1/4 throttle, then runs extremely rich up to 3/4 throttle.  The spark plugs are dark brown (better brown than down?) but not saturated.  8 years ago I moved the clips on the jet needles from the 3rd to the 2nd groove to lean the mixture and it helped for a while.   Should I move the clips to the top groove (temporary solution)? Could the jet needles, needle jets, and/or the main jets be warn and need replacement?   Don't think I will have time to tear the carbs apart this season for a rebuild so I may just band-aid the problem.

I think that Mike89 picked April 26 two hours before you, jparrucci.  Is that correct Mike89?

My last hide I gave to my Taxidermist friend to make what ever he liked out of it.   I've got a few fun Bear hunt stories to be told.  All 3 of us our first year stupidly tracking a blood trail in the dark together and getting lost, luckily smelled the bait making circles and got out. 🫣 Flash lights dying, deep in a swamp following a blood trail in the dark, the one who stayed at the bait called us back in!  We learned our second bear! Lol. 😞  Downing a wounded charging bear with the last bullet when tracking, no lie! 😬    Have had my fun!  🥳

I remember that kegel… stuff….!   just finished my post work latte as a matter of fact!  Only the second case of those I’ve ever bought.     I’d get Mike something better.

I still have hope. Put me down for my dad's birthday in April 26. Come on warm weather.

application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

aw that date is fine and maybe someday we will have beer!!!

Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
