Fished a metro lake today. Ice was almost 6 inches and good where ever I checked. Only got one perch. Wanted to fish longer but the olny other group on the lake left and figured it was not a good idea to be out there by myself. I know where the fish are it is just getting the nerve to get to them

Have the guys on O'Dowd made it past the power loading hole yet? Wife texted me wed that guys were out so I cruised by thurs morning after the club. Made me chuckle how close to shore the holes were. I guess it's better than setting up in the driveway but probably just by a slim margin.

There was guys out in the middle at Owdowds. Not saying it was smart, but it is what it is. Ice looked pretty solid. Lotus in Chan has about 3.5" and a few houses are out.

A couple buddies and I were the ones out by the rope swing on O'Dowd yesterday. I live out on the lake and wanted to get out to get my Marcum camera and flasher all tuned in for the year. Drove over to the fishing pier access (Gravel Parking lot) and we walked out from the fishing pier to in front of the rope swing island. Fished for 2 hours and picked up some sunnies a couple crappies and a perch. Nothing special but nice to get the equipment going again and be back on the ice! There was 3-3 1/2" out there. I skated the lake Thanksgiving day morning and in front of the boat landing had 4-5" as well as the small bays. The two big bays on the lake had 3-3 1/2". Heading down to Cedar Lake today. Stay safe out there folks

This could be said for the majority of south metro lakes.

Any size at all? I live right near O'Dowd and I gave it a shot for the first time last year, and although I caught a ton of fish, they were all dinky at best. The sunnies were potato chips and the crappies were MAYBE 7 inches, and those were the big ones.

I saw you out there today. I wasn't surprised to see your smaller car out there, but I was surprised to see that red 1/2 ton pickup drive across the lake. That guy must have some steel ones!

Driving on a lake on Dec 8? I have too much to live for.

I'll walk, thanks.

This ice season sure did start early.

I was driving out O'dowd with my coupe yesterday. 13 inches where I drilled, and about 19 ft. Marked a bunch of fish, mostly sunnies with a mix of crappies. Around 6 pm, something big, 1 1/2 inch on my marcum showed up and followed me for a minute. Couldn't get it to bit frown. I don't suppose anyone is willing to show me around the lake sometime? laugh

It all depends on the lake and the spots. There's some lakes with 8-9 and some with almost 15. But still remember that no ice is safe ice! Always use caution when driving out!

They are driving all over Lower Prior. At least 12" everywhere I checked. Fishing has been decent, lot of light biters though.

Co-worker and I are going out tomorrow to get that first outing done. We were going to head to Lotus since it's nearby. Is it safe to park along shore and take a 4 wheeler out?

I drove on Spring this past Saturday-Jeep Liberty- there was about 11 inches-fishing was a bit slow, but there was some decent quality 11" crappy.

How's the size on Lower Prior? Anyone fished Upper Prior yet?

Why in the world would the outdoor news put Lake Susan in their fishing reports section?? They should not put any lake under 500 acres in their reports!! Makes no sense to me. I have never fished Lake Susan, but know it is a small lake!!

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year

I don't think its 100% accurate, you are just relying on other average joes to report precipitation. But I think most numbers there are right in the ball park, especially when you see consistency among multiple reports in a general area.   It's probably more accurate than what the weather terrorists say on the news  which usually only reports metro areas. cocorahs is good for getting rural area reports you just might not have as many reports to go off of

Thanks Mike.  I've been looking at bags of it for years but never wanted to chance wasting good meat on it.  I have a gas and charcoal grills, but really love the flavor of charcoal over gas. Most of the time it's if we have time to use one or the other.

On the south end...   The big open water, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  The bays and tributaries of LOW such as Zippel Bay, Bostic Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  The lake is in good shape for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. The many bays and backwaters of the lake have been receiving attention from spring pike anglers.  Some pike have already entered the bays, spawned and gone back out to the lake, but there are still a pile of fish to be had.   The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Another great week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  The bite has been very good and lots of fish of all sizes are being boated.     Sturgeon are being caught from Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River all the way to Birchdale, about 42 miles.  There are many boat ramps along the river to make life easy.  Starting from the east going west...   -Nelson Park at Birchdale (About 30 miles east of Baudette) -Frontier (9 miles west of Birchdale) -Vidas (Near Clementson Rapids) -Timbermill Park (East Baudette) -Peace Park (International Drive, Baudette) -Wheeler's Point (mouth of Rainy River)  The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Up at the NW Angle...  The Angle is ice free.  Resorts are gearing up for the fishing opener which is expected to be excellent.  The late ice bite was very good and the walleyes are in good numbers amongst the islands area of the NW Angle.
