I don't think the jets are getting through there either.....

This is really unfortunate............

Time for some chainsaw action again soon.

I not going near it till the water drops. What happens when more comes loose than intended while cutting away at it?

I agree with Ed. Cutting stuff away during low water is one thing but high water is entirely different.

Unfortunately... it is what it is. (And that is a safety hazard for those coming downstream who aren't aware of the situation)

Coming downstream right now would be a nightmare, especially if you found yourself trying to float to shore due to motor failure or whatnot.

I tell you what it was scary just toying around there the other day. I was looking for an opening and at one point had the boat parallel to the bridge just downstream. I made it past one of the pilings and hit the current seam. It whipped the front end of the boat around so fast that there's was no way to control it hardly.

you don't want to go anywhere near that thing with a chainsaw until at least july, unless we just don't get any rain. The cottonwood you guys cut out wasn't actually under too much pressure once the water was low, but if there are trees all across the river you can bet there is some serious tension in there! i've seen 3 foot diameter trees spring out of the water several feet or more in conditions tamer than those at Carver...

Just so everyone knows.....I was kidding. I thought it was obvious I was kidding......but want to make sure no one else tries sawing that thing until the flow goes down.

I spoke with an official today and he's has asked me to hold off on details for a few more days here, but I might be asking for some help on this one.

Not sure about a Ninja attack but I heard something about many five gallon pails of Crisco and a good rub down of the logs and they should slip by each other. Just what I heard. wink

The unfortunate part of this is that if they were going to do anything about the logs.....it should have happened at peak spring high water levels. We are already past that. Only gets tougher from here.........

I would think the only logical thing they can do is remove the logs, because if somehow they released them, it would be a danger down stream. then once the logs are gone, they should take down the bridge so it doesn't just happen again next year. Although it would cost a lot of money, which I am sure is the reason the bridge is still there anyhow. They need to find away to come up with the money though before someone drowns there.

If only lightning would strike the log jam and start it on fire, problem solved!

Letting it go loose would help the cat habitat down river. It could be a mess for barges and boaters though.

dtro,

Any update on the "trestle plan" ?

Will you need volunteers?

Well it sounds like we are going to be briefed on the plan of attack during our Cat League meeting on Sat. WWG or I will update everyone after that.

Was just wondering what the status on this mess was....is it still locked-tight?

It is still locked tight. No progress reports from our contacts with the city of Carver....

Myself or Darren will post if there are any changes to the status.

The rail bridge is completely impassable.

Why isn't there something posted at the Thompson Ferry landing warning people of this hazzard!

Just last month I had planned to canoe that stretch and pull out at Riverside park.I'm extremely lucky that after I had driven ahead to check out the parking situation . I happened to climb up the berm at the viaduct(ignoring the "No Tresspassing sign") to see if the old tressle was still there. It was pretty shocking to discover a death trap we wouldn't have had a chance of negotiating.I very much doubt I could have paddled out of that jam with the current roaring as it was.

That is scary man...someone could very well get killed because of that mess.

Something bad is going to happen eventually and that is sad. frown I've warned dozens of people about the hazzard (mostly canoers).

RLG, thanks for the shout-out!     Jeff and I are still trying to wrap our heads around what happened this past weekend.  We are humbled and full of gratitude  for having won 'The Classic' for a second time.     We practiced through all the rain on Thurs and the wind on Friday and found six different spots holding big fish.  Fishing was good on both days with several 'overs' in our catch...but would it hold up for another day?   We didn't know.     On tourney day, we made a long run to our first spot where I lucked out on a 26.5"er on my second cast.  Jeff followed up with a thick 27" er a few minutes later, which turned out to be the big fish for the event at 7.26lbs.  We finished out our limit and weighed-in at 10:30 am for the welfare of the fish in our livewell.    There were some big weights in this event which would have won in most other years, but - for whatever reason - this was our day.  Everything just went our way.  Again, we are just super grateful and humbled by this success.  We also want to congratulate all the other anglers who did well and give a big 'thank you' to the tournament organizers who put on such a great event!

I had a good start to the season on opener. Fishing was slow but consistent. I had four eaters in the box by lunch dragging perch raps. Crappies were biting. I haven't been up since so don't know how things have changed since then, but I'm sure the walleye continue to migrate out into the main basins.

Let’s start this by congratulating Brianf and son for winning their second City Autoglass Walleye Classic last weekend. These guys know how to fish.  We just got to the lake for the season. Chores are almost done and I’m ready to fish.  red(new dog is more yellow)labguy

I tried starting a 2024 Lake Vermilion Fishing Report topic but it doesn't show up on this board.   Maybe somebody else knows how to do it?

Yep crazy. 🤪 I played goalie in HS and my two grandsons play hockey now.

Hockey gear in general is very expensive.  I was in a Pure Hockey last month to get my skates sharpened and while they were doing it I looked around at gear.  A new pair of CCM/Bauer customized skates can easily top 1000 bucks.  Then you need everything else.  It would be several thousand before you had everything.  And then your kid grows like a weed so you need to buy bigger gear.   Then there's goalie gear.  That's enough to buy a small boat.   Nothing cheap about that sport by any means.

That's a good idea Mike.  But, my sweet wife who's never killed anything in her life, wants them all dead and their skulls on poles! 👹  🤣
