  3. I got a good idea........maybe have a couple more beers and not worry so much about your neighbors. In fact invite them over for a dinner and a beer and discuss your issues...that's how my neighborhood settles issues. Man to man...works out pretty good....
  4. Send him some literature on CWD. Like FishingCT mentioned, disease spreads at common gathering points where deer may rub noses. CWD, for example, spreads through a prion or protein that can spread this way. This spread of disease is an example of why disease in raised herds is such a big deal.
  5. Feeding deer, especially in the winter, is a really good way to spread disease. Maybe you won't have to worry about them as much next winter after all
  6. Because I'm sure he was serious about Molotov cocktails. Is there an eyeroll button?
  7. I agree with your neighbor , it isn't a big deal , your grass will grow back , and my guess is with the spring rains , all poop pellets will disintegrate and be totally gone soon , if they are not already gone .. my question is what the heck are you planning to do with Molotov cocktails ? If I saw you toss one at the deer , I would be calling that CO , and he WOULD have something to write YOU a ticket for . . And if you flung one onto my property , well let's just say you would have a big issue to deal with yourself ,, that would be me !!! My suggestion is to just relax ..
  8. Fence and pressure from the neighborhood is your best best until there is a law against it. Good luck.
  9. Yesterday
  10. A letter from all the neighbors or a neighborhood meeting with him sounds like a good first thing to try. Maybe he'll get the hint. Better than war.
  11. Rig up a motion sensor with a horn or alarm of some kind.
  12. New neighbor decided he likes to feed deer in the winter, and he does so right on our side of his yard. The food attracts many many deer, and so our yard now has a big mudhole as well as bushels of deer pellets. (free for the raking). Nobody on the road is very happy about him feeding the deer since they tramp around the area and stand on the road and so on. He didn't sound like "oops won't do that anymore" but more like "no big deal, it will wash away and the grass will grow back" Anybody got any suggestions? CO says "nothing that he can do", Town board isn't happy either but isn't convinced they can do anything. I'm thinking that if they pass a rule, then I can take him to small claims court every spring until he stops wrecking our lawn. Molotov cocktails are a last resort. I am thinking of a fence that I put up in the fall to funnel the deer away from my yard. Snowfence is too short but might help discourage them.... I really don't want war with the neighbor but this can't go on. I'll talk to him again and see what he is thinking.... Maybe a letter from all his neighbors... I need ideas...
  13. My buddy and I are hoping to make it in to Little Trout Lake the week after next. Sitting a canoe has become a little less comfortable over the years, so our idea is to row/pole our way through the channel from Trout Lake in our 16' boat, then row around and drift in Little Trout, while catching some nice walleyes. Hoping we can get through whatever remains of the beaver dam in the channel without getting in the water. If anyone has been in to Little Trout lately, does this seem doable? Poling through the channel always worked years ago when motors were allowed on Little Trout, but of course, things can change in 40+ years. The only bummer is that I was hoping we could leave the motor on the boat and just not fire it up on Little, but the Ranger Station in Cook told me I must remove it and stash it on the Trout Lake side. Also, although I spent quite a bit of time on Little Trout in the late 50's through the early 70's, I've only been in there a couple times since. If anyone has any advice on fishing locations, I would gladly accept them.

    Mille lacs report

Thanks! I have to admit that the plan starting the day was to pitch for smallmouth but the wind where we wanted to fish pushed us to plan B! Another reason to tell my wife why I need so many rods and reels and tackle boxes!

  16. Better Than Working!

    Mille lacs report

Not seeing any reports from Mille Lacs so here is my 1st report! Hit the pond Saturday afternoon for a few hours of getting the rust off the boat, equipment and skills. Found the fish in cabbage in 10-12 feet of water. Trolling stick baits 2.0 - 2.3 mph. Only got 4 walleye (24", 25" and two 28") but they were very healthy! Not bad for a few hours of fishing! Good luck out there and make some memories!

  18. Ely area lakes were showing 69-71 today. That was a warmer than expected surface temp but I doubt it goes very deep. Very little spawn activity compared to past years for this weekend.

I like the stretch upriver better but can only drift down that area. I would wear my arms out traveling up stream! Hopefully do a drift down soon.

    Northeast trout streams?

The stearms in the arrowhead are small very small I would recommend a 6 foot or short rod for most streams as you will be pitching your bait out. They are also over grown with brush wading these streams is a challenge. You will be fishing for mostly brook trout above the first posted boundary FYI it’s normally a large water fall but not always. Also the first week of June there will not be much from the lake to the first posted boundary anyways. Remember there special regs below the first posted boundary and the above the first posted boundary. If you want to use your fly rod I would hit the small trout lakes in the area. A split shot and small chunk of crawler is my go to bait for Brookies. There are a few streams with some browns and rainbows but very few. If you are fly fishing look at Thompson lake by devilstrack lake it’s catch and release. Mink lake, kimball lake are also good.

    Northeast trout streams?

Growing up in South Dakota I did quite a bit of fishing in the black hills for browns and rainbows, most of that fishing was best accomplished with a long pole and just drifting my bait down the stream if you can read the eddies and slacks in the water you should do fine. Of course I'm assuming they bite the same up north as they do out west. It was a kick when I went back out there 2 years ago and on Sunday morning fished the little 6 ft wide stream running behind the campground, all the other campers were amazed that I would pull out a fish about every 20-30 ft no monsters but plenty of little beauties at 7-10 inches. If the water is clean and the fish are there you just gotta find out what they are eating at that time of year. Hopefully this helps and if I'm wrong some of the guys with Minnesota experience will pipe up.
  23. I do a bit of fishing from the coon rapids dam on down to 694 and I usually bring 2 rods because I lose at least one lure to the rocks. Bear that in mind and also realize that there are nice smallies, eyes and cats in that stretch of river. I also had over 3 feet of pike eat my stink bait I had out for channel cats. If I didn't have a circle hook on it would have been a nice pic to share. Good luck and hope to hear of some good luck.

    Humminbird helix

It would take a lot of code to make multiple windows tiling the screen work, would be my guess, and would create few additional sales so isn't worth the expenses. Just pick up an inexpensive 5 to 7 inch unit and use it for the map.
