Resort owners thoughts 1947

Recommended Posts

As I sit wondering what this year 1947 will bring let me write that the last 4 years have been good to us,Burt and me .

It seems that only 7 years ago that we were playing baseball out 200 yards from what is now shore. The drought years were very tough on other resort owners and ourselves.Norway lake was almost totaly dry and our Games Lake was over a third gone.

Their was a secret weekend when the Floubeck property delivered a large amount of noise by blowing open a water passage way between games and what is called Little Norway Lake. This delivered a great amount of water to the Norway Lake Chain. And Several years later the state had to begin continuosly building a (Contact Us Please) at the Games Lake end of chain to keep water in check.

Last year I offered over 3500 meals of hamburger ,and 10.000 ice cream cones to guests at our resort. We started building our 2 bedroom home as an addition to store and 3 cabins, camping people filled the vacant spots between us and the slough to the south east.We now have 17 boats that we built of white cedar with a oak beam rented every day with a waitng list.

Burt traps every fall and winter and Russ is in his second decade of life. Its hard to remember that 4 years ago we ate rice ,muskrat, racoon .and sometimes only rice.

My husbands fathers farm is holding on and my father is here helping with the boats.

As it is the end of April and we are now very busy I can only hope that this year is as good as the past three.Burts cousin Clarence is running the state park and we often visit.

I have served at least 400 breakfasts this spring.and 900 dinner and supper meals,

As our 5 booth and large bar counter seems to be a hit.I have to go now as some people need a boat and minnows.

I have got the last boat out for morning its now 8;00 am and have to clean the cabins for this weeks guests. They are from the Winchester Arms Company and Tonka Toys from the citys. Most of our cabin guests are sent here to fish bass from Green Lake Lodges and they bring their guests, guided from such.

The neighborhead fellows have been spearing and trapping northerns in ditches and i hope they do not get caught.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
