dnr loses court battle

Recommended Posts

did anyone hear that the dnr cannot enter your ice shack without your permission? i just received a newsletter from NAFC that says it is now going to the MN court of appeals. If they lose there then they will make you sign a statement before they will let you purchase an ice shack permit

Yeah. I've read the discussions in Outdoor News and on a few threads on this board. I think its a bunch of BS. How can we expect our CO's to be able to control poaching and other illegal activity if they don't have the right to enter an ice house without warrant? I guess I can't see the relationship between an ice house and a private residence. This is the first time I've heard about the option of waving the rights when purchasing your house permit.

That brings up another hot topic. House permits for portable shelters. I don't have a problem funding conservation efforts, but shouldn't the DNR find another way to get that revenue? I won't even begin to go down that path...

This entire situation stemmed from Drugs and illegal activity. You get a high priced defence attorney and this is what he came up with to get his client off the hook. I have heard of Meth labs out on the lake. Can you imagine what would happen if someone had an accident and spilled their chemicals down a hole! What a wonderful world we live in.

To Walley Dundee:
Pretty soon we'll have to get a permit just to park our cars on the lake.

Suddenly:

The purpose of a portable is mainly to keep warm. I spend most of my time using my Otter as a temporary warming house while I'm hopping from hole to hole. Are they going to require a permit for my bibs too? Again, I don't have a problem funding DNR and conservation efforts. I just think they found a silly method to get the $$$.

Suddenly; from reading past posts, I have the impression,--that we already need a shelter license if the vehicle is used to block the wind. Good news is, the air is free.

I am in full agreement with the dnr. We are talking about ice houses. I agree that privicy is a Right, but so many people use to many lines. I was out on Mille Lacs There were 4 tipups around a house and when the guy's came out you could see 2 rattle weels down. They also said they were jigging that is 8 lines for 2 people. This is not the exception how many of the people who use this site have fished illegly. YEY FOR THE DNR

I have never understood the 2 line rule anyway. What does it matter if you use 2, 4, 18 lines as long as you do not exceed the daily and possesion limits? I abide by the 2 line reg, and if it's fast and furious you can't handle 2 let alone more! And come to think of it, why are 2 OK on the ice, and only 1 on open water?

Let'em knock.

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year
