Square and Elmo

Anyone fish these east metro lakes for trout? What can A guy do to Ice a few? If anyone can post or email me I would welcome the advice. [email protected]

I usually hit Square a few times a season. The trout are tough. They are very fussy. I have had best luck with larger Sutton spoons in bright gold or chrome color. It may sound weird, but these spoons are 2.5-3" long with a pretty large treble hook. I hook a single crappie minnow through the dorsal and pump the spoon up and down. I usually fish in 20-30' of water. I don't think it matters much. Fish half way down so that at the top of your "pump" you are fishing half way down. I know this sounds goofy, but it does work(sometimes). Hooking these fish is the easy part. Getting them through the hole is the tough part. You can't baby them with an easy drag, you gotta horse them out pretty quickly. They roll around so much that they usually get off. Trout in the 14-17" range are about average. Don't forget to buy a park sticker or pay the daily fee when going through the park. it is a $75.00 fine if you get caught without one and they do patrol it regularly.
