Rod Grams Dist. 8

Okay I am not going to try and start this whole politcal debate. But I find it interesting this whole GOP is for Hunting and DFL are against. Okay Rod Grams has proposed this new bill he wants to work on if he beats out Jim Oberstar. He wants to cut all restriction on Developments that involve Wetlands. Stating that All wetlands in the path of Devolopment can be destoyed without rules or regualations. And I Have to ask how will this improve Duckhunting? Honestly I think people have to wake up and look at more than just the NRA to establish pro or against hunting canidates. I did read this last night in the Outdoor news and the editor of this article seems to be as sick as I am. I havn't figured how this will make Duck hunting better in the state? Maybe someone can help me out here?

I didn't hear anything on that, but I do know this time around I'm researching the canidates more than what I did in the past in terms of outdoor issues and how they voted for dedicated funding, etc. I don't care if they are Rep. Dem. or Indep. this time. I mostly vote Rep. , but I'm getting tired of the some boloney. We all need to research this time around.

I am sick of them just saying this or that. For govenor we have two canidates that both support hunting and fishing strongly. Yet People say Hatch is againt all hunting simply because he is DEM. I am more worried about Schools, Healthcare, Roads, Transportation, the well being of our state. Cutting funds to these isn't always the answer when it is apparrent we are Falling behind the Norm for a High Quaility MN. I ask all others to Join and actually look at the issues all the issues and decide on that when casting a vote!

Thanks Cliff for the update, and thanks Brett for the info too!

You can fish a little meat out of the ones with really big claws. Tails are easy once you get the hang of it. Meat pops right out then just pull the intestine(?) and you're good to go.  I'd rather people use fish guts as crawfish bait rather than throwing them in the woods for my dog to find

You can also get the ArcGIS app to access the county files on your mobile or download the .kmz files on the county site to use in Google Earth. Either way very useful.

Well most people use a fish head or two in the trap as bait.  Any type of raw  meat will probably work well. No need to purge them as they are coming out of clean water. Just boil the whole crawdad in salt water or better yet in a Cajun mix! The tails are about the only part worth messing with. Cliff

I live on Little Cormorant Lake, I believe sometime next week that it will be open.  The lakes out there are changing fast!

we got a lot snow down in the twin cities than up north and temps are a lot higher than it was in 2013.   I think we will have enough open water to fish the opener.   No one needs to cancel!  I HOPE any way

what do you use for bait?  I heard you can't use left over fish guts.   do you have to soak them?  sorry not sure what that process is called.

meerkat, Many people eat the rusties. Very tasty but like walleye wings it takes a lot for a meal! Cliff

I just got an e-mail from Brent Flatten in the Tower Fisheries Office stating that they hope to get the Dock in by Monday if the river clears of ice. Will set the trap nets on Tuesday and the first net lift will be on Wednesday. They may even collect eggs Wednesday if there are enough ripe females. Very good news! Thanks for your update Brent! I would imagine the man made pepin connected to the sippi is open not the actual lake pepin?
