According to the "Photos" forum, no dead fish pictures frown.gif I wish we could post some because I just got into bow fishing and I'd like to see some other people's fish.

It would be kind of hard to catch and release a carp shot with a bow.

I would think you could show a pic of the dead carp, but who knows, I have been in "jail" before.

Can we include a clause stating that bucks weighing less than 60lbs field dressed with no branched antlers are prohibited to keep Deitz from cluttering the thread? grin.gif Sorry Double D,I just couldn't resist! smirk.gif Guess I got one coming now.

Hey Fellahs, don't forget that all bow harvests are trophies! I am proud of every quick clean kill that I make with my bow and everyone else should be, too, and I'll admit that most have been does (still waiting for that elusive mount to put on the wall). I am a venison eating machine and I need to be fed!!

Best of Luck to all! I'm guessin' your anticipation level is just about at peak level, I know mine is! C,mon SEPTEMBER!!

LOL, I just got started and don't have any trophies yet grin.gif Just some 3-5 pounders. I'll keep searching and shooting, though. I'll post a picture of one I shot the other morning later...when I get home.

Here's my latest kill grin.gif Not a trophy fish, but I've only been shooting for a couple of weeks, so I am happy with what I can get. Plus, it came out of a pond a mile from my apartment smile.gif

LMAO, that was hilarious. Maybe I am just punchy today, but I think people started looking at me funny when I started laughing at my screen.

  • 3 weeks later...

I havent bow hunted in almost 24 yrs and I'm going to give it a whirl I'm using the bow my dad gave me on my 16th birth day its a Ben Pearson 45lb recurve . hope I can post some thing with a rack but I'll be happy with a doe. I'll just be happy to see a deer. grin.gif yea that was good I started laughing at the screen on that one too. mile long shot I'd be happy with a 7-10 foot shot and not miss. havent shot carp in years either got some on the lake I live off of . might have to settle for carp killing.

  • 1 month later...

nothing really to special just two does with in 5 mins of each other. was on my stand by some apple trees and i was going to get down just after an hr i got up there because of storms coming in then i saw two does coming in. waited till they came in to about 20 yds, shot the biggest one and dropped her, then the second one ran to about 45 yds away from me and stopped so i shot shot her and she ran about 30 yards after that and went down. im still looking forward for shooting my big buck of the yr. good hunting tomorrow!

I got my first miss out of the way yesterday on a doe but of seven hunters we got 3 does. Late tracking last night produced one of the three but got the other two this morning.

Got my first deer, ever, and with a bow besides! Second year hunting, so I was rather pleased, now I can be trophy hunting for the rest of the season. Dropped her opening morning at 17 yards, nice 2-3 year old deer.

I too got my first deer ever with the bow--it was probably the best time hunting that I have ever had! Watched deer for an hour waiting for them to come into range--when they decided to run into the woods! They ended coming back out and I ended up taking a nice doe that walked into range! This was my first night out on the stand, ever! It was great--thanks to all that share advice on this site--I read regularly and have learned much!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
