hey crickshop04, I would toss a gallon or two your way(they'd be free of course). I have already had 2 meals and have more than enough for fishing. Email me and let me know when you are going to be in the area. You'll probably have to clean them yourself, sorry. I am going to the Twins game tomorrow and will be gone all day, but I'll be in Superior all day Friday and Saturday. let me know, [email protected]

The smelt are still running hard. Went out last night and got a 5 gal. bucket full in two small pulls. There were a lot of them out there- more than a man would want to clean! shocked.gif

Please dont let any smelt go to waste. If anyone has some extra I would be glad to take some! I have 2 small boys and the few times I've made it out have been pretty slow and I could really use some, thanks. Joel

Well It wasn't as nice of a photo that Cheffery had to share with us but it will have to do. Billy wish you could have been in the photo with Steve but they must have left the wide angle lens at the shop. grin.gifgrin.gif

Joel,

I'll see what I come up with the next couple of days and see if I could help you out a little bit.

Take care guys,

Tom (BD110)

Man that was sure quick work tonight. Hauling all those big full coolers to the truck was harder work than pulling the seign.

I have a couple smelt over 12" and many over 10"! Any pike or ski fisherman that need big smelt should get a hold of me before they are gone. grin.gif

Well its not the glory days but the best overall run I have seen in around 20 years. I think Im done for the season as well unless someone needs a hand pulling a seign.

Cheffrey your all hooked up and set to go. $10 a gallon or $40 for a 5 gallon pail. wink.gifgrin.gif Aint that right Skipperskid? tongue.gif

Nice seeing all the fellow FMers getting er done the past few days. Always fun enjoying the outdoors with you guys.

BD110 you missed it again. You would have been in hog heavon! wink.gif

Load hows your back after all that excitement?

Boy those Christianson nets sure were the ticket last nite ....we tried a regular net and the waves rolled the smelt right out the bottom ....the guys next to us let us pull their christianson net (with the condom ) and 2 pulls we were done ...I have enough for the season but I am willing to pull the nets for some one else if they still need some

I hope they are still running for the people coming up friday cool.gif

Joel,

Glad to see you were able to get your hands on some smelt.

My brother will be down on park point with our net tonight. I'm not sure where I'll know more later. I'll be stopping down after volleyball around 9:30pm.

It sounds like I missed one heck of a night. The good thing is that I can finish cleaning the smelt that I already have.

Matt Hot Hand,

If you see this post give me a call on my cell when you are done working today.

See ya on the point!!!!!

Take care,

Tom (BD110)

I am going to try and get down there tonight for a little bit. Might have to bring the kiddo with depending on the weather. Might also need a little help with pulling if anyone is up for it. Hopefully it is as good as it was last night for you fellas and it won't take too long to get a few.

Northlander were you guys down by park point? If so I'm thinking of coming from the cities tonight and hope to get some for myself. It's a far drive but if it's going then I'd be happy enough to make the trip. And were there a lot of guys out there?

Skipper Kid, I was there too but somehow missed you.

With the way the smelt were coming in last night I wouldn't put off getting your smelt much longer. Big smelt too.

Shinner Muncher, was that you looking at my bucket last night?

is anybody going to be down on the beach tonight? I might be able to come down for a little right about dark but may have to wait and see. I am able to help pull if anyone needs it.

Like ST says the run wont last. The smelt we got were huge at the start and then got smaller as the night went on. Maybe a few more nights there. We were just over the bridge on the lake of course. Tons of people so get there early. If its like last night you will be done in a hour.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
