I'll post this again...

Quote:

For anyone that has gotten into crappies on Mille Lacs, is there a certain time of day that is best? I would imagine low light conditions, like in the evening would be prime time. But if I can't be up there during this time am I just wasting my time trying during the other hours of the day?

schr0563- your ? was answered a few times. I reported what my trip on mar 12th early morning was like. nothing. 3-6 people at most in the morning fishing the bay. J Smith stated that he talked to the DNR at Scenic Bay and they stated that some crappies were being taken in the evening hours. Fishing is never time wasted no matter what time you go. So if you can't go in the evening and want to try maybe you become the guy that finds them during the daylight hours!!!! Good Luck and let us know what happens......

Lets not remove this post, please. Instead, only post on this topic about the current crappie bite on Mille Lacs. That is what the original intention of this post was. I did not have the chance to try it last weekend, and would like to know if anyone has had any luck in Isle recently??? thanks, hope to make it up there soon. Jiggin'

Thanks for the reply ozzie. I realize people already gave their input on what time to fish, I mostly was just trying to get things focused on the fishing again. I will definitely post a report if I make the drive up there.

My dad, my brother and I were out on the lake today. Here are a couple of those 5 pounders everbody is talking about.

All right, so they're not even close, but they are still nice fish. Some nice sunfish were in there as well. Supposedly the bite was just discovered Wednesday so it is still fresh. That's all the information I got for ya.

Tom Fellegy...Sorry about that mix-up. I usually fish out of Cove bay and have tried for crops there a couple times with no luck. Have you ever had any luck for them there? If you dont want to post results here, could you e-mail me at [email protected]? Thanks Tom

Ron

I would think a guy would need to find a soft fertile bottom with decent weeds next to some sort of bottom transition to find decent gills and crappies. I can think of 1 or 2 areas that would for sure have these conditions smile.gif Put your thinking cap on and I bet y'all could find some nice spots.

i Was up in isle bay on sunday night and was fishing in 8-9 ft and watched one fish get caught! THere was over 30 vehicles that i counted on the ice with one fish that i visibly could see and the lucky fisherman jumped out of his chair and tackled it he was so excited. 2 years ago i was up there with my dad and we were pretty early for the evening bite. so i took the camera and started dropping it down holes toward shore. As i kept getting closer to the left side of the bay looking out toward the lake i dropped the camera down and there was over 200 craps just suspeneded in about 5 feet not moving or anything . ran back grabbed a rod and then they were gone in a matter of minutes. Dropped a camera in the same area this year and nothing.

I stayed at scenic bay this weekend and i couldn't help but have a few cold ones and walk around that giant cluster and b.s. with the guys at the circus, one guy caught a bass-never seen a crappie. there was atleast 100 guys out there, there was even a short bus parked out there. owner of scenic said one group got 36 on tuesday, very hard to catch fish that shallow with that much traffic. grin.gif

Jimmy its true you fish them in less then 8 feet but with the huge crowds stay home unless ya can shoot up for weeknight. O try another bay.

Monster I think I am actually going to make it up there sunday for some fishing. I have just been so busy lately, (friends wedding last weekend). I figure this will be my last shot at the pond for the year.

Yeah well early morning can be good too when there is not as many people punching holes and putting the auger blades next to the fish. I have caught them away from the crowd closer to shore and back in the bay more but the was last winter. I to have been way to busy hoping things slow down for ice out crappie action on some smaller lakes.
