Minnkota universal sonar

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how exactly does the "universal sonar" unit work on a Minkkota trolling motor? Does this mean you could connect any flasher or graph to it? In other words, could you connect an FL-18 or an LCX-104 to it? Or, are you restricted to certain electronics manufacturers or models?

I can't seem to find any specific information on rigging or technical manuals on the Minnkota site which explains how it works so I figured I'd just ask the experts.

Any chance this site will explain why my bowmount reads just fine, including water temp, but the helm station WON'T read at the same time? I mean it won't read temp.

The Minn Kota U.S. does not have any temp sensor.
