Heck even if you know it.... ask BM bout the last time we were out...... ran over a rock that I knew was there cause its a spot that I wade about 10 times a year tongue.gif Luckily the old Lowe and johnson are tough as nails blush.gif yeah right we'll see after this year grin.gif

Ohh and another funny thing after we hit it BM looks at me and says jeez I saw that rock 50 feet before we hit it blush.gif thanks for telling me tongue.gifgrin.gif

Yeah sound like you had a hell of a spotter in the front of the boat cool.gif. Yeah I guess I cant say anything because I have hit rocks even after he had told me about it. But I also have a Johnson that is strong as nails.

Thats a hell of a funny story though River rat316

Ill give hiim some credit he wasn't up in the front...... and I really shouldnt have hit that one considering water height and my boat but....... It still cracked me up..... and all it did was put a hairline crack in the intake that can be easily fixed

You forgot to tell them RR what you said after we hit, "maybe if your heavy arse wasn't in the boat we would have cleared it"... Sheesh no love. tongue.gif LOL Besides, what is 50 feet going to do when you're flying at it at 25-30mph...

That is a really funny story though - and I was the one in the boat! If I was up front "spotting" I would have been tossed out, then run over. RR we'll get out again this year and I'll do a better job of "spotting". Just goes to show you how easy it is to do some damage to your rig if you aren't careful...and that was in a jet.

Yeah its his story and he can say what he wants but I think it was his fault. You where in his boat so you are just suppost to be along for the ride. He is suppost to bring you to the fish without any problems.LOL cool.gifsmile.giftongue.gif

You will have to let me know RR I have never fished anywhere else on the miss. other than around Elk River. I always wanted to try down there.

RR - I've been there done that in the old river rig w/18hp... didn't help that it was 38-40 degrees out and I was soaked after a hour of trying to go up river 1 mile. LOL. I'm just glad I have friends with jets. Wading the river is relaxing, but you have to know your spots since you're limited...

Pool 4 sounds good - give it about 1.5 more months! Wow, only 1.5 months until Pool 4 will be a viable option for wetting a line.

hey big mike i don't really care if you are mad because i said the river is a good spot to fish, this web site was created so fisherman can help each other catch fish and if i helped someone have a great day of fishing and that person goes home with a grin on their face then it was worth saying fish the river.

You just dont get it do you...... why dont you read then reread the posts and see if you might understand anything that was said.......

Ohhh and by the way its not the sight members that we are talking about..... its the 25,000 lurkers that in sense steal information cause there giving nothing in return, go post a spot you caught fish on during the summer and go back the next week and it will be packed with garbage and people fishing, these aint site members that leave there trash around and crowd a spot, its the lurkers. I used to give a ton of information out about the river, and have since stoppped, since everytime I go out I could pick up a dumpster of trash at those spots and not even fish cause theres people already fishing the spot and crowding in. Ive seen the traffic at least triple on the river in the last 3 years, the big thing that bothers me is the trash, and sometimes the noise. I am also bothered by the mishandling of the fish that are supposed to be C&R I cant count how many fish I caught last year with huge chunks of there mouth missing because people were to dam stupid to unhook em without just ripping the hooks out. I am a sportsman and so are most of the people on this site, we have a huge respect for the river and everything that lives in it, unfortunately not everyone does, this is why I now keep my mouth shut about the river.

Think about it it makes sense

OK

Enough is enough. As a moderator, if this keeps going this way, I will either lock it, or delete it entirely.

I am partly at fault. I have contributed, but my point was to be a bit selective on how you post details(fact or fiction).

Keep one thing in mind. This particular forum(Miss North Forum) is dedicated to one single body of water. The Mississippi.

Sure there are other forums like Mille Lacs, Lake of the Woods, etc, that cover mainly one body of water too, but you are talking about massive bodies of water at that.

Lots of eyes(members AND lurkers that never post) are being drawn to a very small area overall, and we dont want people to keep their mouths shut, but we want to protect/preserve it as best we can in the same breath.

Thankfully the Mississippi has its own natural protective measures(limited accessiblility due to dangerous areas). But, its getting more accessible by the day, and by more and more people.

The Miss is a gem, so lets get back to some more meaningful discussions.

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.

I found this dock wheel floating in Black Bay. If it's yours or you know whom it belongs to, go and grab it.
