Putting together a FM LOW trip..............

Recommended Posts

Leaky -

I'll give you an update after I take to Bryant or Jason.

We can fit a lot of stuff in the bomber. I packed my whole family, gear and dogs into there the last time we went.

Hopefully we will not have to worry about that.

I just talked to Bryant. He said there should be no problem driving trucks out this weekend. It will be sloppy though. He did not think wheelers would have a problem either. Bring your rain suits smile.gif. I guess the lake must have absorbed some of that water.

I asked him if there was room on Morris Points road for hard sides and he said there should be - but the water may get a little deep for them this weekend. If guys want to bring those up it would be a good idea to call Morris Point to see if you can park them on shore if it is too wet. Or maybe you can park them on the lake and not drop them down if you are just going to use them to sleep in.

Just stop at Morris Point when you guys get up and give me a hollar on channel 13. I will come to shore and show you the way out. Don't forget to pay the $5 road fee.

Looks like we are good to go guys.

Packing is underway! Mrs. MT Net just booted me out of the kitchen. It's pretty tough sneaking a few piping hot walnut chocolate chip cookies. See you up there Friday morning.

See you tomorrow evening leaky, Blue goose for dinner?

He was green the last time I saw him grin.gif.

I was planning to do burgers, beans and noodles for supper Friday night for everyone and then a fish-fry Saturday night for the whole crew too. Then I was just going to do breakfasts for my fish house. It is getting kinda hard to plan because I do not know for sure who all is coming and what everyone is bringing. So - I am just going to bring a sh*tload of food and put out a donation pot. I will have breakfast going both mornings for any one who wants it. Folks can just toss in whatever they want. What ever is left I will take home.

I will be collecting $5.00 per head for anyone who wants to get in on the biggest Walter Derby grin.gif.

Who want to play some poker grin.gifrolleyes.gifgrin.gif ?

Bob - How many people and gear can fit in the bomber? Maybe MT & I should plan on 1:00 as well so that they don't have to make two trips if we can't drive ourselves out.

Here is an update on our man Fisherdog as posted a few minutes ago by Kelly on the URL Forum:

"fisherdog19 called again and he was able to get it up the hole. 42 1/2 inches and back down the hole. Further proof that good things happen to good people. Yesterday he was fishing alongside of another group I had out. This group had 2 young boys one of which had never caught a fish in his life. It turned out that fisherdog19 had two hot holes. He not only gave up his holes for those kids but he also drilled them some more holes close by and gave them his fishing rods. Then he sat with them and gave them some coaching and helped them land their fish! This was all on his very first day of fishing URL. Great first impression! "

This was his second post on this. Fisherdog had called him earlier and told him he had been fighting the Northern for about 20 minutes.

I just talked to Fisherdog too. He said the Northern had grabbed a 16" Walleye he had on and had it was 1/2 way down his throat. He also said he is limited on Crappies.

Hmmmm, I wonder if we will be sampling some of those on Saturday?

OK - So I couldn't run fast enough to keep from getting clamped. I'm sure it would have happened in my sleep anyway. wink.gif As an offical IBOT, I don't think life will ever be the same again.

Man, what a great time. After having to bug out early on Sunday, who ended up with the big fish? Did you guys make it to Red on Sunday?

It was sure nice meeting the guys I hadn't met before. Little Perch, Fisherdog, Gooseslayer, Condor, Bryce. I'd fish with you guys anytime. LP, I promise no more perfumed snow bunnies. grin.gif

Jigglestick - Thanks for heading up the entertainment commitee. Can't remember the last time I've laughed so much. I gotta find a good spot for my IBOT sticker.

Dr. Bob - As usual, you da man my friend. Thanks for putting this all together. Looking forward to Basswood already.

Northlander - I think we talk more on the forum than we did this weekend. If your 18 1/2 held up, spend your winnings wisely.

MT - When's the next road trip? Hope your nose is holding up OK today. I think we did OK for a couple of cidiots.

Bryant & Jason @ Gibbons - THANKS for everything. You guys did a first class job with 1st class houses. We would have never iced all those eyes without Jason the guide's assistence on Saturday. cool.gif

IBOT # 129, BWCA Chapter..........LPA! LPA!

Opener and the week after were good.  Not the numbers we normally get but better quality in the East End.  Not surprised on the weights for the Auto City a.  Usually for us we only catch a few slot fish but we averaged 3 a day for 10 days.  2 overs, biggest 27 inches.     Our best luck was 12-16 feet for quality.  When we went deeper we caught more but smaller.  Bass were really starting to heat up.  For me little earlier than normal.  Found some nice Bluegills the day we went after some panfish.  Dock fishing was as many as we wanted per usual.

We will be up on June 8th for the week. It will be our 13th year in a row staying on the lake.  I hope the walleye are hitting the bobbers by the time that we get there.

Those are some fine specimens. Great job

I'm quite shocked to hear that a walleye tournament is still doing a live weigh in.  Virtually every event these days around here is doing a catch, photo, and release format.   Regardless, nice work.  Congrats.

On the south end...   A great week of fishing with walleyes and saugers caught in good numbers.   The go-to presentation, again, was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 17 - 21' of water.  Various schools of walleyes and saugers across the south shore.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.   Some big pike and jumbo perch being caught by walleye anglers. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers normally head to the lake.  12 - 15' of water is holding some nice fish.   Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes being caught along with a mixed bag.  12 - 25 feet of water.  Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water were holding good fish this week.    The go-to presentation was a jig and minnow as on the south shore.  A mixed bag as is common around the Angle.

Nice work!   Here's two words you hardly ever hear anyone say anymore.  "grateful and humbled"
    • Brianf.
RLG, thanks for the shout-out!     Jeff and I are still trying to wrap our heads around what happened this past weekend.  We are humbled and full of gratitude  for having won 'The Classic' for a second time.     We practiced through all the rain on Thurs and the wind on Friday and found six different spots holding big fish.  Fishing was good on both days with several 'overs' in our catch...but would it hold up for another day?   We didn't know.     On tourney day, we made a long run to our first spot where I lucked out on a 26.5"er on my second cast.  Jeff followed up with a thick 27" er a few minutes later, which turned out to be the big fish for the event at 7.26lbs.  We finished out our limit and weighed-in at 10:30 am for the welfare of the fish in our livewell.    There were some big weights in this event which would have won in most other years, but - for whatever reason - this was our day.  Everything just went our way.  Again, we are just super grateful and humbled by this success.  We also want to congratulate all the other anglers who did well and give a big 'thank you' to the tournament organizers who put on such a great event!

I had a good start to the season on opener. Fishing was slow but consistent. I had four eaters in the box by lunch dragging perch raps. Crappies were biting. I haven't been up since so don't know how things have changed since then, but I'm sure the walleye continue to migrate out into the main basins.

Let’s start this by congratulating Brianf and son for winning their second City Autoglass Walleye Classic last weekend. These guys know how to fish.  We just got to the lake for the season. Chores are almost done and I’m ready to fish.  red(new dog is more yellow)labguy

I tried starting a 2024 Lake Vermilion Fishing Report topic but it doesn't show up on this board.   Maybe somebody else knows how to do it?
