Well, to say the least this weekend was a bummer. I went up Friday night with my girlfriend to meet up with my friend and his girlfriend. I was pretty psyched about the possibility of catching some...ok a bunch of perch. I was thinking that the action would be swift enough to keep the women entertained. That was until I matched my GPS coordinates to the reel-bottom map my buddy had purchased. It appeared that we were in the middle of nowhere!!!!

The next morning in the light of day, my fears were confirmed...there were at least 3 spots where houses used to be....we were out there by ourselves! The only other houses out there were other ones from the resort. There were no private shacks nearby. Here are the coords, let me know what you think!

Well my dad has been fishing mille lacs for a couple of months. He said that he was nesseled up close to all the other houses out there. I told him to get away from everyone else and he has had the best luck since he has done that. So I think that is how you catch large #s of fish. That and drilling lots of holes and jumping hole to hole finding the active fish.

Thats my 2 cents GOOD LUCK FISHING

Looks like an ok spot too me. You were sitting on the tip of a slow tapering point on the N.W. side of Grassy Island Reef, provided your GPS was working correctly smile.gif

looks good to me too. its in a trough between a larger body of deeper water and a smaller body of deeper water. looks like a nice staging area.

regards,

minnesotatuff.

ps, im all ready to go tomorrow morning...just having last minute correspondence to get a little incentive. it looks like tomorrow will be it before the cold front comes in. i dont know if its just been the weather, or if depth has been the deciding factor. some people are having some great fishing lately. from everything i could decipher, i picked a spot about a half mile northwest of hennepin island to try. never been there before, no one told me about it. if i go, i will report back.

regards,

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, I know my GPS is working right. The last time it put me right where I needed to be, but on this trip moving around didn't appeal to the women. Oh well, we did end up with a 'pout' and 3 perch. It did seem like the houses were pretty well stacked up on the obvious structure. Good luck to those of you who are heading up there this week. Wish it wasn't such a far drive.....I'd be up there again this weekend. Fish-on!

Funny, my wife and I drove by Big Rice on our way to Grand Rapids. I pointed to the launch and said, somewhere there's an old rotting couch in there, two clowns 🤡🤡 on the forum keep joking each other about pissing on. She said gross! Cuz that's what guys talk about on forums! 😆😅🤣

You can still fish Mille Lacs during the closure from July 1-15.  You just can't specifically target a walleye or use live bait.  There's plenty of smallmouth bass and pike in the lake that you can target with artificial lures and you might get lucky with a muskie.   The wind can be an issue out there though.  If that doesn't sound appealing to you, try the Rum River.  There is an access in Kathio State Park that would work well for a kayak.  You could go upstream and downstream from there too.   I think you will need to purchase a daily pass to use that access in the park (it might be like 5 bucks).  I haven't fished there in years but I fish the Rum River further downstream every season and the fishing in there is fantastic during midsummer.  Look for current breaks, seams, and deeper holes.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. Glad your place was ok. Lake Country power said they had 20 poles toppled in one area!

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.

Any other info about VC?   Got kid and and fam coming up.  Been a couple years but really liked it.   Reviews on line still good.   Did Mark just hit on a bad night or has it gone down?   Being on west not a place we go often.
