Cleats??

Ok, I guess I'm going to need cleats come Saturday if I don't want to spend the morning on my can. Pretty much head to Gander or Fleet? Is there variety with these? What should I be looking for when picking them out?

To be honest, I'd just buy the cheapos from Wally, Gander, or FF. They are under $5.00 and work as good as any other. They don't have any cleat on the heel, so you will have to get use to walking on the balls of your feet.

The cleat is a jagged saw-type peice of metal and really grips the ice. Occassionally they've had problems with the rubber ripping, so you might want to keep your reciept. I used them all year last year and no rips at all.

They should fit your boots very tightly almost to the point where they are tough to put on. This will ensure they don't slide off when your on inclined terrain.

Also its a good idea to take them off if your going to let your boots sit for an extended period of time. They may get stretched out if you don't.

I currently have the $25 strikemasters and they are going back in exchange for the cheapos. Before these I had the $15 HTs that have hex screws in the bottom. After only a couple uses, most of the screws had fallen out. They've been returned as well.

Very happy w/ my Yak-Trax. they cost a little more but have outlasted anything I have owned before. Easy on and you don't have to walk on the balls of you feet. And it is like having 4wd when trying to pull the tent up & over the banks of CC pits!

I also have used the cheapo's for the last 5 yrs and have never had any problems. I saw them at the Wmart here in hastings the other nite for under 4 bucks... Just what Tyler called out... so cheap, you can buy 2 pair.

From Tylers description, I believe I have the same style and have used them for 3 years now and they work great. I think they are the HT brand and only cost $5. I've had to use them almost everytime out this year.
