Hello everyone. I am new to this sight but not fishing. My wife and i recently had our first child together and she is now 6 months old. I have found it very hard to find time to get out fishing now, and when i do get time to go I have no idea where to go and what time to be there. (morning, afternoon, or evening) I would like to get on some keeper sized crappies (9+inches), seeing as my freezer is empty right now. I have managed to get out only twice this season and have had minimal luck. I usually fish Blue, Green, East and West Rush primarily. Although i am open to suggestions. I am not looking for any secret spots just some basic info. Are they biting? What lake? How deep? Are they keepers? Thanks in advance to all replys.

Congratulations on your daughter! My wife and I have been trying for 6 years, but haven't been blessed yet. I guess the only lakes that you have mentioned are ones I don't get to that often. I have been out to Rush, but I don't like the crowds. Give Goose a whirl. You might not get too many big crappies, but there are some numbers out there. I have caught them there at any given time of day, but of course the evening and morning is best-but any time out on the water is good, right? smile.gif Good luck!

Panfried: If you are fishing during the day don't hesitate to give the waxies a try even if you are targeting crappies. they can be a hot item for mid day craps, plus a bonus sunfish. My favorite crappie time is sundown, even though I have had a good daylight bite. For some reason as the sun hits the top of the trees around 500pm or seems to be magical. Congrats on the new edition, and good luck on the ice. Bill

Another lake you can try for evening bite crappies would be cross lake in Pine City. They seem to be doing pretty well right now out by the sunkin island in the evening. Pokegama in Pine City has real nice craps but the numbers arent as good as Cross but you should have no problems getting 9" on Cross. Good luck and congrats on the little one. I know what you mean by not as much time on the ice as I have an 18 month old and another on the way. Just gotta take every oportunity you can I guess.

The mayflies are just starting in Frazier Bay.  We could see a few in the boat the last couple of days.  Then started seeing big trails on water yesterday and today.  I just got done cleaning 3 walleyes and they were full of them.

Have the Mayflies started.  We are coming up end of July and trying to see what the time line for them are this year.  Not sure how the late ice out would effect the hatch.  Thanks in advanced.

Just an update, walleye are still hanging on the week edges.  I caught mine in 8-10FOW again.  Lost one that was 4-5lbs.  Best part, I have yet to use livebait this open water season.  Basically the same technique as last week.     Only issue is finding the weeds that hold the fish.  Same as last week, just looking on SI, finding small transitions between weed edge, soft/hard bottom ect.     Once you find them, then you can spot lock/talon down and cast at them.     And, as before all fish were released.

Saturday and Sunday were tough days on the water, NW winds post cold front. Got better yesterday and today. Took a retired friend out today and sent him home with 4, should have been 6 but I was off my game. Water Temps around 70. Unfortunately can only fish Thursday as I have to work a few days, this weekend. Safe travels on the Independence weekend!

Wasn’t quite sure how this week would turn out because of all the reviews but have had a blast and caught some awesome fish. Very weedy in most of the lake canoe out to less weedy area and fished around the weeds caught multiple 4  even heavier bass in a row definitely recommend it
