FM Get Together - Lake Winnibigoshish!!!

Recommended Posts

We're going to plan an FM Get Together on Lake Winnibigoshish on Saturday, January 21.

Yep, the same day as the I.C.E. Series event smile.gif

We'll be based out of Denny's Resort (www.dennysresort.com) and we'll also have a tent set up out on the ice.

This is going to be an opportunity for everyone, regardless of whether you're fishing in the event or not, to join up with us and share in the fun.

You can watch the weigh-in, fish with FM and IceLeaders Pro Staff, as well as join in all the festivities that are taking place that weekend.

For everyone who shows up before the start of the I.C.E. Series event (8am), you can enter for the FREE prize drawing that will be held after the weigh-in.

So, I repeat, you do not have to compete in the I.C.E. Series to attend the Get Together, it's open to everyone who is looking for a weekend to get away and enjoy the excellent fishing opportunities that Lake Winnibigoshish has to offer, as well as spend some time with other ice anglers.

It's a good way to meet fellow FMer's and put a few faces with some of the names that we see on here everyday. Also a good opportunity to try out some new gear and win some great prizes!

Many of our Pro Staff will be there spending the weekend chasing down perch, walleye, pike, panfish... and we're asking you to join up with us for a day on the ice.

Should be a lot of fun and it's always one of my favorite weekends of the ice fishing season!

  • 3 weeks later...

So who is planning on coming out and joining us on the ice?

From the sounds of it. Winnie has some of the best ice conditions to be found.

Well, Wiskers and I are going to try both I.C.E. events this year. You can't really miss the big River Pro Ford of his, so come say hi if you see us. We'll be up on Friday to try and find a spot or two, since neither of us has fished Winnie much. See ya there.

I'm there!

Got an H20C with a very tight map of Winnie built right in. Can't wait to give it a whirl up there.

My pa will be with me and we're just looking to have a good time and catch some fish.

I'll be up middle of the day Friday if anyone is looking to hook up.

Radios????? Channel 7, subchannel 11 I believe.

I'm taking Saturday off to fish, with Winnie being out my back door, how could I not? I know a few of the Duluth FM'ers are going to be there too. From what I've heard lately, the bite has been pretty consistent out there as of late, with 'eyes in the evening and perch moving out to mid-lake structure and mud flats. Sounds like the ice is about 15" and vehicle travel is pretty much unrestricted, but still use caution, as with any ice!

I'll be there too. Me and Northland Sportsman promised ourselves that we would do this event this year. I'll be down there saturday moring. This will be very interesting, I've never been to Winnie before. What's the best way to sign up? I'm really looking forward to this. And really looking forward to taking a peek at Hanson's new toy grin.gif

I'm most likely going to make this my 1st ice fishing outing this year. I know, pretty pathetic, huh? Oh well, I'm looking forward to seeing some good old Fishing Minnesota friends, and meeting a few new ones!

My boy and I will show up with a sled and would appreciate a little advice as I'm kinda new to Winnie Ice. I'm hoping Peter can once again claim a World's Greatest Ice Fisherman title - different lake this time. He's my good luck charm.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the bite holds up, or maybe even improves by the 21st!

There will be four of us coming for our first iceleader tournement. We did make it to coolcats last year and it was a blast. A few question concerning the tournement. Are we going to allowed to fish lakes like surgar since you can acess them without touching land. Look foward to putting more names to faces out there. We will be up on friday moring if any one wants to hit the bar on friday night

I just got word from Pat at Denny's and it sounds like the ice is much better than last winter, 15-16 inches. Not much snow either as of now, so traveling on the ice should be nice as well.

This is one of the events I look forward to every year!

Hi Paul and Matt,

I am all signed up for the big event at Winni on 01/21/06. Probably will need a little direction that morning as to where to start the great fish hunt, as I have never fished Winni in the winter, figured one of you could lead me and my partner in the right direction. Paul if you dont remember me, I fished with you on Halloween night on Mille Lacs this last year and dont forget the elusive gold jig you showed me that night. Also, if you can recommend any lodging in the surrounding area, that would be greatly appreciated, have nowhere to currently stay on Saturday night. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, I participated in the Rush Lake event last year and it was a great time.

suick100,

I have been calling for rooms and am just gonna bring my wheel house to sleep in. They do have some rooms at the northern lights casino that was about all I could find and I think thats about 20 miles or so. They are 106 a night but if you just get a casino card they will only charge 86. Thats about all I could find and I wont be taking one.

I may head on up to this event.. Should I bring my wheeler along? Or would it be okay to drive my truck out on ice (full size f150)?

Thanks for the reply Sunkinboat. I guess we just drive up for the day and fish hard all day and drive back to the metro late Saturday night. Which is fine, just need a lot of coffee I guess. Anyway, cant wait for this event, always fun to meet and talk with all the great people at these events. See you up on the ice.

Looks like i'll be heading up to this event. Looks like it's only about 30 miles from my in-laws, so.. Wife and kids get to see grandma/grandpa, and I get to spend the day fishing on a lake I've never been on. =)

Try calling the resorts on the east side of the lake.

Tamarack and Pines. They still have cabins available for

the weekend.

Heading up to LV a week from today with the kids. Any advice for us? Staying on the West side but open to traveling if the weather permits.   The way the last few weeks have gone, might stay for good!!!

Do have Wi-Fi in your house. Your going to need that to work with any of the cameras that send a signal and video to your phone.  Hardwire is the best but battery power workers well for about two months then you have to pull them and recharge them.  It is nice to sit on a beach in Key West and keep an eye on your house when gone! 👌

With all the craziness in the world I’m looking at getting an outdoor security camera setup for my home. Anyone have ideas on what works well without a huge cost  and easy to do . Or is it better to go with a company to set it up.  We have recently had copper thefts in the area at farmers fields and bin sites and I know it will only gat worse as these things always do. I probably want something that hooks up to my phone as well and wondering if there is a good one with either battery life or if wired is better. Any thoughts are welcome.

Aren't they the ones that ran into problems about illegal bait? Anyone know how that turned out?

You launch on Moose Lake to get to the motorized portage. It's called Prairie portage. To get to the portage you put in at Moose Lake. From Moose you go into Newfound Lake. From Newfound you go into Sucker Lake. On Sucker is where Prairie portage is. There is a dock on the American side and on the Canadian side there is big sign welcoming you to Canada. Latourell's Resort runs the portage and the cost for the portage is $40 for a round trip.

Will that blond haired kid have that cool little orange boat in the show this weekend? Saw him driving around by Muskego Point a few times this summer.

      Hey  stranger!!👌

Nope, there are parts of Basswood that allow motors.   Entry is from Fall Lake, and there is (I think) a motorized portage.   It is really popular in the spring...
